AFL Supercoach expert Niko gives his best buy, hold and sell candidates heading into round 3 of AFL Supercoach
AFL1922 was a great score for me in round 2 and a massive thank you to big X for his 199 as captain!
My rank jumped nearly 30k spots to inside the top 8k. It does go to show how one week can change things massively so don’t be too dejected if you’ve started poorly.
I’m now looking to capitalise on a good start to the season, and everyone should be boosting this week making this article a must read, and long, sorry in advance.

Everyone listed in the above snippet from the Supercoach player database is a must have (except Murdock, more on this later…) as they’ll all make bulk cash from very low starting prices. Prioritise these guys before reading on, but hopefully you started them all.
Brayden Cook ($158,700 Adelaide MID/FWD, B/E -63)
I do think this one is optional due to his wing role and not being a guaranteed starter. Having said that, with some injuries around him he should hold for a few weeks. Has a great kick on him and the DPP is a huge plus.
Jack Watkins ($99,100 Port Adelaide MID, B/E -62)
Should keep his spot for the time being due to the injuries around him and his leg speed. The 74 score stays in his cycle for two weeks and he has an easy matchup. Very good option if you can make it work.
Willem Duursma ($203,500 West Coast MID, B/E -49)
I was scared off the number one draft pick due to his inflated price but he’s looking pretty good. He did need two goals and a win to get his 88 score so that has me a little worried.

Very close to must-have due to his points on field and coming off the bye. Should continue to score well and could be your last upgrade if things go well.
Josh Worrell ($487,000 Adelaide DEF, B/E 42)
116 and 123 to start the season and sharing kick outs. If he’s fully fit looks a good trade in if you can overcome the round 12 bye.
Tristan Xerri ($687,300 North Melbourne RUC, B/E 69)
IF you have a struggling ruck, he’s the man to bring in. The upcoming ruck battles include Blakistan, Pittonet, Draper/Fort, Samson Ryan, Briggs, and Edwards/Blicavs.
Dayne Zorko ($555,300 Brisbane DEF, B/E 87)
Age is but a number for this fella. Should continue to score very well as the #1 distributor off half back for the Premierships fancies.

It’s not a low breakeven by any means but has started the season hot and looks a great trade in coming off the bye.
Nick Daicos ($628,400 Collingwood MID, B/E 119)
Same applies here as with Holmes for the Brownlow fancy.

Played out the match on the weekend with a hamstring concern and scans have confirmed a strain. Will miss a couple, but when he’s ready to return will be one of the biggest must-have’s in Supercoach history.
Zane Zakostelsky ($119,900 Brisbane DEF/RUC, B/E -49)
Handy DPP but if you didn’t start with him there’s better trade in options. Likely to lose his spot when Andrews returns from suspension.
Bo Allan ($152,600 West Coast DEF, B/E -41)
Inflated price and likely to continue dropping 50’s. Better options than him.
Max Kondogiannis ($113,500 Essendon DEF, B/E -35)
We do have a defender rookie crisis with Gibcus and Lindsay getting dropped, but I don’t think he’s the answer.

Handy DPP again but he’s too expensive for what you’re likely to get.
Jack Carroll ($159,100 St Kilda MID, B/E -11)
Has risen $40k and if you’re an owner hold for another week at least, if named…
Dan Houston ($431,500 Collingwood DEF, B/E 23)
I see plenty people trading into him, but I’m not convinced. Moore and Howe will return and take some of the kick-ins and ball off him in the back half.
Mattaes Phillipou ($185,400 St Kilda FWD, B/E 38)
Didn’t miss a match with his corkie but was on reduced minutes. I think, and hope, we’ll see a lift in both TOG and scores shortly. Not worth a trade out.

I dare say you’ve got bigger fires to put out. Future MID DPP could also come in handy.
Shai Bolton ($441,500 Fremantle MID/FWD, B/E 44)
One bad game, one good game. That’s what you’ll get. On my never again list.
Lachie Ash ($582,600 GWS Giants DEF, B/E 70)
Bye next week makes him a pass for now but trending nicely as an upgrade target.

Will sadly miss months of football due to a high-end hamstring injury. Must trade.
Tom De Koning ($492,100 St Kilda Ruck, B/E 150)
I think the don’t sell your premiums rule exemption applies here. Disaster starting pick with every other ruck popping off.

Disaster losing Trac to a hamstring injury. Not on the minor side either so a must-trade.
Lachlan Blakiston ($295,500 Essendon DEF, B/E 43)
60’s at this starting price as first ruck is just not cutting the mustard. Plays Xerri next…
Dyson Sharp ($149,500 Essendon MID, B/E 15)
There was already worrying signs with TOG before his ankle injury. It’s nothing serious but I’m planning on moving him on.
