Round 14/15: Players worth a second look

Stats guru Jay Schubert takes a look at which players can be season long keepers from here on out.

NRL

After surviving round 13, it’s time to look ahead to see which players can help cover the remaining byes, but also who can be season long keepers from here on out.

Teams that should be targeted heavily are the Tigers and the Sharks, as they only have one bye left in round 17; and to lesser extent the Bulldogs who have two remaining byes in rounds 17 & 23.

This is significant as we can get in non-origin players now and hold for the remainder of the season as they can be covered easily.

Will Kennedy

Overlooked by a lot of teams but averaging 74 for the season, playing in a very supercoach friendly Sharks backline, should be a solid buy for anyone who gets on. With a BE of 62 and games against the Broncos this week and Storm next week, he can be brought in either week depending on your team setup. Sharks play the Bulldogs in Round 16 at home as well.

Briton Nikora

2nd only to David Fifita for average points in the Second Row, has been the big winner running off Hynes. Still only owned by 7% of SuperCoaches. With an achievable BE of 77 this week, averaging 74 points, and playing at home with Hynes likely to back-up from origin, he could be the POD we’re looking for.

It’s State of Origin time!! this week for our betr SC Playbook multi, we’ve got Turbo, Addo-Carr, and Munster to combine for 2+ tries in Origin 1! FOLLOW HERE

Jacob Kiraz

While coming back from injury, he hasn’t looked like he is running freely yet, but coming off the extra weeks rest in Round 13 he’s more than worth the risk. He’s still been able to punch out 53 & 49 while not being his best; he is a workhorse and gets through the work. Coming up against a woeful Roosters outfit this round, definitely worth considering.

Jahream Bula

He’s already exceeded expectations and made the Tigers fullback spot his own, has a great base and gets attacking stats for fun. For those who have not got on, he is still a buy with a negative BE of -28. It seems the Tigers have finally figured out how to play footy, and Bula has been a major benefactor of the extra attack. He also seems to be fixture proof, scoring 60 against the Panthers and a solid 45 against Souths before exploding with the 124 against the Cowboys last round. This will stay in his rolling average for two more weeks, with even more price rises coming.

John Bateman

Welcome back Mr Bateman, it seems like he’s gotten used to the pace in the NRL again. With a three-round average of 67 and a BE of 36, he could be that solid 3rd of 4th 2RF to take you through to the end of the season. Huge POD as well, only owned by 1% of teams as well.

Starford To’a

A little left field, but for those who are still chasing a cash grab, look no further than Starford To’a. A massive 152 last outing that will continue to produce price increases over the coming weeks. More of a short-term play here but will make it easier to get back the elite origin players that were sold off for the byes.

Jacob Preston

Hold. Anyone that still has Preston, hold. As mentioned earlier, he covers the next 2 major bye rounds, averages 61, and has potential to go larger too with three scores over 76 this season. If your second row is stacked, he’d be a sell from Round 20, not earlier.

Siosifa Talakai

First game back from injur, but he was only just warming up! 92 & 106 in his last 2 outings. We all have memories from last years 165 point monster. The Sharks are better than last year and Talakai has been more consistent. Only owned by 2% of SuperCoaches, he has the base and scoring potential we’re all looking for. Did I mention he has a BE of 3 this week?

Good luck with the trades this week!
