NFL Supercoach Week 6 | Buy, Hold, Sell

NFL and Supercoach expert Josh Clutterbuck goes through the best Buy, Hold, and Sell options in NFL Supercoach for Week 6

NFL

Buy

Darren Waller ($3.7m, Miami Dolphins TE, -44 BE, 4% ownership)

He’s out of retirement and into many coaches’ lineups this week and for good reason.

If you’ve listened to the SC Playbook NFL podcast, you’d know I’m a big fan of this guy.

Waller won me a few draft championships a few years back when he was a Raider, and I, for one, was devastated to see him perform so badly at the Giants and thought maybe he was done.

However, much like Saquon last year and Daniel Jones this year, leaving the Giants seems to have been a master stroke.

Dolphins QB Tua has been on record saying he’s pumped to have a big red zone target for the 1st time in his NFL career.

In 2 games, he’s already recorded 3 TD’s, equal 12th in the league.

Waller doubled his snap count against Carolina to 32 offensive snaps, which saw 5 targets, 5 receptions, and a touchdown for 78 yards.

Waller is projected to be the 6th best TE this weekend in his matchup against the Chargers, and I, for one, am very interested in him as a cash cow this week with his -44 BE.

Time to make up some cash that was lost on Bowers?

Javonte Williams ($14.95m, Dallas Cowboys RB, -5 BE, 25% ownership)

Back on the buy list this week and for good reason.

If like me, you missed out on bringing in Williams and you’re kicking yourself, be upset but regather yourself, accept your wrong decision, and bring him in now!

Williams is the no. 3 RB in Supercoach this season and is back to his early years game-breaking best.

The Cowboys are going to be putting up high offensive numbers all year as long as Dak is healthy and under centre, and it seems as though all members are going to benefit, especially Williams.

In a year when top backs such as Saquon and King Henry aren’t performing, it’s crucial to go with the flow and not miss out on guaranteed points, which is exactly what you’re getting with Williams.

Drake Maye ($20.99m, New England Patriots QB, 44 BE, 3% ownership)

Cometh the hour, cometh the man!

Patriots fans should be incredibly excited about the future of their team after Maye’s performance and ultimately the team’s win against the Bills.

Coaches should be pumped as well to see Maye’s next stretch of games.

With doubt around the health of Lamar and the general play of the Ravens, Maye is an intriguing pickup and someone I’m certainly keen on.

He’s currently the QB 6 in SuperCoach and has games against the Saints, Titans, Browns, Falcons, Buccaneers, Jets, Bengals, and Giants before a week 14 bye.

Yes, there are a few tough games in there, but with Maye thriving in the McDaniels offense, his connection with Diggs growing, and a coming-of-age game against the Bills, all signs point to Drake Maye asserting himself as a top 5 QB, maybe even top 3 in Supercoach NFL.

Patrick Mahomes ($22.95m, Kansas City Chiefs QB, 16 BE, 16% ownership)

Mahomes has become a Supercoach and fantasy stud once again.

The Chiefs haven’t been the same dominant team they have been in previous years; the aura is gone, thus teams are having a better crack at them this year.

Mahomes is being forced to do more, and boy, does he look good doing it. 4 of his 5 games so far have scored 45 or more SC points, which is just crazy good.

I feel the most dangerous thing about Mahomes is everyone writing him and the Chiefs off.

He’s a winner and will do anything to get his team in positions to win.

The best part about this season has been that he’s used absolutely everyone to produce for him, so he’s not afraid to go to his 4th or even 5th option if it means he moves the chains.

I can’t see him slowing down, and I’d be scared to play this version of Mahomes at the backend of the season.

Jake Ferguson ($11.77m, Dallas Cowboys TE, -3 BE, 6% ownership)

A few weeks back, I wasn’t too sure about Ferguson, but I’m sold.

As mentioned above, if you’re in the Cowboys offense, especially as a starter, you’re going to produce.

Ferguson has upped his stats from last year majorly.

Although he only played 14 games last year, through 5 games he already has more TD’s this season after scoring none last year and is only 18 receptions shy of his total for the 24 season.

As well as that, he’s more than halfway to his yardage total from last year as well.

What does this equate to?

Plenty of points for a player in one of the hardest positions in the sport to pick a consistent statistical producer.

Given the top dogs have been fairly average this year, Ferguson is more than serviceable as a TE this season and should be included in conversations around your team.

Hold

Trey McBride ($12.53m, Arizona Cardinals TE, 38 BE, 17% ownership)

This is crazy that McBride has popped up on the top 10 most traded out players list after 1 bad performance.

McBride is currently the 5th-ranked TE in Supercoach, and as mentioned above multiple times, TE is such a hard position to find consistency, so why get rid of a gun?

Kyler Murray isn’t one of the best QB’s, that’s well known; however, it doesn’t mean that he’s not gonna throw it to his main target.

If we’re going off average scores per game, McBride drops to the 9th TE; however, 2 players above him have played 4 games, 1 players has played 2, and the other has played 1.

I understand getting rid of Bowers with the injury concerns, but McBride is still producing.

He hasn’t had a big breakout game like the man above him, Hunter Henry, but I’d much rather take the consistency over the 1 off anomalies.

The only way you could justify this is McBride to Ferguson if you already own Warren.

Stay patient Trey fans.

Harold Fannin Jr. ($5.19m, Cleveland Browns TE, 4 BE, 5% ownership)

I’ve seen a lot of the top coaches looking at getting rid of Fannin Jr.

He hasn’t been the cash cow many hoped for, but he is still slowly climbing, and outside of 2 poor games where he scored single digits, he’s scored fairly well for the position.

He’s the 19th TE on the year, which isn’t great, but It’s he’s been a victim of poor QB play from Flacco rather than poor play himself.

With Flacco gone and Gabriel under centre, could we begin to see a bit of chemistry forming?

Unless you’re swapping him for Waller, I don’t see a reason to burn a trade on someone who will continue to gradually make you cash and has decent upside.

Sell

Brock Bowers ($11.85m, Las Vegas Raiders TE, 36 BE, 44% ownership)

I’ve been on the hold train for much of this year, but after continued poor QB play and news around Bowers’ injuries, he’s playing through I think it’s time to cut him loose.

Bowers is playing through a PCL injury as well as bone bruising and is refusing to rehab the way he’s been told.

Well-respected NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported that “Doctors have said the only way to recover from the knee injuries he suffered against the Patriots is to rest, which Bowers is unwilling to do.”

I’d be inclined to keep him around, however, with TE being such a difficult position to pick contributors at this year, I’d rather look elsewhere to someone who can contribute on a weekly basis.

Omarion Hampton ($12.36m, LA Chargers RB, -1 BE, 48% ownership)

Not a move I wanted to make, but one I had to.

Unfortunately, Hampton has been put on IR with a foot injury, so he will be out at least 4 weeks.

You could stash him if you’re looking to save trades; however, I think there may be a few RB’s around this price who you might miss out on if you don’t get rid of Hampton now.

Who’s to say he comes back with the same explosiveness he’s shown over the last few weeks as well?

It’s a shame for sure, but when your season’s on the line, it’s better to accept your losses and move on, in my opinion.

Derrick Henry ($15.15m, Baltimore Ravens RB, 52 BE, 14% ownership)

It’s time to go… King Henry.

What a fall off this guy has had.

He had fumbling issues at the start of the year, which were well documented, but he just hasn’t been able to show anything outside of week 1.

The Ravens’ defense has been atrocious and hasn’t had the offense starting in good field positions wise which may have contributed to this as well.

With Lamar out and Cooper Rush not being the same Cooper Rush he was at the Cowboys, Defences can hone in on King Henry and nullify the run.

What I will say is monitor him closely for the next few weeks.

I think he could be a sneaky pick up towards the back half of the year when the Ravens undoubtedly will be making a push for the playoffs.

Trades and Captain

Using another Boost this week after mixed results with last week’s trades.

Unfortunately, another weekend bender unravelled me, and I didn’t think about Lamar not playing.

JSN performed well for me, but Johsnton and Cook both put up poor numbers.

I expect to see them bounce back this week with favourable matchups.

IN: Javonte Williams, Drake Maye, Darren Waller

OUT: Omarion Hampton, Lamar Jackson, Brock Bowers

First up, I traded out of necessity.

I very easily could’ve waited another week and left Hampton on the bench, but I didn’t want to miss out on points from Williams against Carolina.

Williams is RB 3 and is at such a good price as well.

I missed out on him once, and I don’t want to miss out again.

Lamar is out injured and has a bye coming up in week 7, so I needed to make a decision on who to bring in to maximise points.

A tough decision for me here. I was tossing up between Mahomes and Maye, but ultimately went with Maye.

I think the strength of schedule and favourable match-ups against some weak opponents in the next few weeks, coupled with a low ownership percentage compared to Mahomes, could see me slowly climb my way back up the ladder.

Both are great options, but I love a bit of a gamble, so when to gamble Clutzys’s Patriots season on the actual Patriots QB.

Last trade is a cash-based/ high upside move for me.

Waller has one of the lowest BEs I’ve ever seen in SuperCoach, and he’s playing at such a high level.

Bowers could be out any week, seeing as though he’s not resting up his injury.

I’ll look to make some more cash here and see if Waller pans out.

If he does, great!

If not, I have my eye on another TE who I will mention in my alternatives.

With these trades, I have left myself $16 million in salary cap space to make some big moves in the coming weeks.

I wanted to be able to bring Lamar back in without stressing over cap space, and this allows me to do that.

Alternative IN: Jake Ferguson

Alternative OUT: Brock Bowers

So my Alt trade this week will be bringing in the number 1 TE.

Do I go for the cash cow and look at bringing in Ferguson down the line, or just bite the bullet and go with the hot hand off the cuff?

We’ll see what my brain decides on come Monday morning.

I’m currently looking at Drake Maye as my captain against the Saints this week.

I might do a VC loop with Allen as he’s playing the Tuesday game over here in Australia; however, as pointed out in the podcast, Atlanta has one of, if not the best pass defence in the NFL yardage wise to date.
