Welcome to our review article at SC Playbook where we review the action from the previous round and see what impact it had on our side and what we can learn from it.

Round 6 is in the books, and many games were exciting and went down to the wire!

The Sixers are finding some form, and after a hot start, the Stars are starting to falter.

Sixers vs Heat

Result: Sixers won by 3 wickets

One change for the visiting Heat.

International opener Munro dropped in place of Hearne.

No changes for the men in magenta.

Joel Davies‘ breakout season and cheapie of the year! 35 off 26 to guide the Sixers to a win in a match-winning partnership with Kerr.

4 overs and 2/19 when bowling during the middle stages of the innings. 120 SC points!

Question marks lingered over Wildermuth in recent rounds, and holders were rewarded.

80 SC points after he scored 31 off 17 balls to get the Heat off to a quick start.

Bowled 3 overs, as he was more preferred in this match compared to Balkin, and finished with figures of 1/26.

Renshaw trending toward an allrounder role?

About the only time he hasn’t made runs but 3 overs of spin for figures of 1/13.

I think it was more pitch-dependent because of the success of Davies and Kuhnemann, but worth flagging.

After the position the Sixers found themselves in, it is hard to believe Dwarshuis and Abbott were not required with the bat.

78 and 60 SC points respectively after they both picked up 2 wickets in tidy spells.

Perfect role for JED, especially picking up a wicket in the powerplay. It just didn’t equate to SC points, failing to pick up wickets when bowling during the surge and death to the Heat’s lower order.

Dismissed for a golden duck too when the batting opportunity was there.

Speaking of golden ducks, guess which keeper I traded in this week…

Kerr, the forgotten all-rounder for the Sixers.

Well done if you traded him in for this round.

Some crucial runs and 3 overs 1/12. 80 SC points.

He just needs to hold his spot for the second game to make it a cracking trade-in!

Strikers vs Thunder

Result: Strikers won by 6 runs

Two changes for the Thunder. Sangha and Willey in for Andrews and Khan.

One change for Adelaide. Ali back in for Shamsi.

Adelaide were of high interest given their upcoming double.

Overton back bowling and back to true SC form. 3/25 off his 4 overs and a catch in the outfield. 114 SC points, and he is yet to make a decent score with the bat.

He came in at 6, and the Strikers batting hasn’t really clicked in many games, so he should get an opportunity with the willow during the double.

An obvious target for the double.

Harvey and Sangha with Adelaide’s highest partnership of the tournament.

Both made scores in the 30s. One would think they would hold their spots and this impacts upon another possible trade in target.

Liam Scott was Adelaide’s best bat, making 49 off 32 balls. He can find the boundary and take advantage of a power surge at that number 5 spot.

He was batting at 4 earlier in the tournament, which is more preferrable in terms of the chances to face more deliveries, but middle order during a power surge can be a very advantageous position to earn a strike rate bonus.

He is not a true all-rounder, overs can vary from 1-4 depending on the conditions and match situations, but a batter with some bowling opportunities is one to consider before their double.

81 SC points on this occasion.

Hasan Ali changed the momentum in the match with tight bowling after a fast Thunder start.

4 overs taking 1/22, including a maiden. 63 SC points, but the fact that he missed the last game when Shamsi was preferred makes me think he might not play both games in the double.

Only 8 SC points and dropping an absolute soda, but one on my trade radar is Luke Wood.

Bowled key overs, including the 1st and 20th (and he executed the final over very nicely).

Priced reasonably and perhaps a sneaky one for their double.

Pope (and his many lookalikes at the Adelaide Oval) are also worth considering for their double.

Again priced reasonably, and although he can go for boundaries, he also looks for wickets, which helps with SC scoring.

Warner again carried his bat, top scoring for the Thunder with 97 SC points.

A hold for those that traded him in, and someone to loop with a good Thunder schedule upcoming in a batter’s spot.

3 overs for Short. Almost had a couple of wickets, but overall a very quiet night for him.

18 SC points and non-owners will be picking him up cheaper before their double.

Agar showed the value of a 20th over, especially during the first innings.

94 SC points.

Sams‘ owners would have wanted that over.

He had a reasonable 49 SC points and had ample opportunities to be involved with both bat and ball.

Scorchers vs Renegades

Result: Renegades won by 4 wickets

Takes:

Heaps of changes for the Scorchers as they got almost their best eleven on the park. Ins were Allen, Evans, Payne and Richardson. Outs were Fanning, Curtis, Couch and the injured Agar.

One change for the visiting side. In was Elliot for his first Renegades game. Out was Spoors.

Another spluttering innings from the Scorchers batting first at home, just like last round.

Hardie top-scored with 44 runs but only off 40 balls, thus failing to activate the strike rate bonus.

Sandhu again amongst the wickets, his variations and back of a length proving hard to hit cleanly.

111 SC points and his hot form will mean he will be at a high price come the Renegades’ double.

No Zampa has meant more bowling responsibility for Khan, 88 SC points with 2/26 off his 4 overs.

Batting at 6, and will it be 5 when the match winner leaves?

A rock-solid SC role if Zampa remains out injured. He also seems to bob up for a catch or two a game.

He is off to the U19 World Cup, but Peake was the match-winner off the last ball.

A young gun delivering compared to the hype for the Renegades! Something new there!

77 SC points for Peake delivering with a 6 off the last ball.

JFM will be cheap for the double.

He just can’t put it all together for the Renegades batting at 4 consistently.

Sutherland looks like the safe all-rounder play in round 8 for the Renegades.

Yet to put up that ceiling score of over 100 SC points, but batting at 7 and bowling in the middle and towards the end of an innings, usually getting at least 3 overs.

64 SC points in this game for “The Chief”.

Behrendorff with 3 tidy overs that included a wicket. Well and truly on my radar for their double.

He should be priced under $100k, and with Renegades pushing for finals, one would think restings are not high on the agenda.

Unless their price can net you something very tasty with upcoming trade-ins.

Hardie and Connolly look like season-long holds.

If they fail with one discipline of the game, they usually seem to earn SC points in another.

No Agar means Connolly is now the number one spinner. He had figures of 1/20 off his 4 overs, and didn’t make many runs.

Hardie, as mentioned earlier, made some runs and bowled 3 overs in this one, including the 20th.

Yet again, Captain Ashton, given yourself more than 1 over. 1/1 off his single over.

Joel Paris looks to have picked up an injury, unfortunately.

Stars vs Sixers

Result: Sixers won by 6 wickets

One change for the home side. Tom Curran out with hip soreness replaced by Hatcher.

His brother Sam Curran and Shaw in for the Sixers, replacing Hughes and Kerr (a tad stiff after his match-winning partnership last game!)

A few starts for the Stars, but no one could really get going at a decent strike rate apart from Blake Macdonald.

The Sixers bowled first and just squeezed the Stars after the powerplay in an impressive bowling display as a unit.

They did this in both games of the double this round.

Could they be a tougher match-up for batters in the final few games?

Bulk SC points for the Sixers bowlers.

A mammoth 147 SC points for Dwarshuis in this match as he picked up wickets, maiden points and economy bonuses!

A great VC choice for the round.

Edwards picked up wickets and 89 SC points to reward those who also put the VC on him.

Joel Davies did it with the ball again, picking up wickets and not conceding a boundary off his bowling yet again.

76 SC points.

No wickets for Abbott or Curran.

Curran was very, very expensive with the ball in his first Sixers game.

He did come in and bat at 4, which is promising for a true all-rounder role.

Henriques‘ role change to open the batting.

Philippe was the best Sixer with the bat. 35 off 25.

A few catches in the field equated to 70 SC points in a better outing.

Stoinis was the best bowler for the Stars.

104 SC and a great performance from a single-game player, and clearly a hold for the season, especially as the Stars start to need to win as they are not clearly in first place anymore.

Those that jumped off Maxwell made the right call.

Again dismissed after going for a big shot early in the innings, and just bowling one over to start the innings.

He is now the 98th-averaging player in the game. He will be the most owned player next year!

Mitch Perry, Wadia, Charlie Stobo, Munro, amongst others are currently averaging more.

It is simply insane, and for those like me who unfortunately still have him, he is a hold because he has lost all of his value and is not worth trading.
