Updated! NRL Round 1 team lists: Full squads + NRL Supercoach analysis

NRL Supercoach veteran Tim Williams analyses the NRL squads for the remainder of the season opening round 1 fixtures.

NRL

Happy Team List Tuesday part two, to all those who celebrate.

We had our early season teaser with the Vegas spectacular, now we get the remaining six games of Round 1.

Hopefully team lists have been kind to your NRL Supercoach squad, and that certain players (cough, cough, Tino) get named in certain positions to gain dual position status before the weekend.

The Vegas fixtures gave us our first taste of life under the new Supercoach stats provider.

It’s evident that the game has changed, certainly the early stages of the season.

Of the notable differences, Valentine Holmes scored just 35 points under the old system, which bumped up to 54 points under the new system thanks to the last pass try-assist.

Kalyn Ponga was the big talking point from Round 1 with his brilliant 118 points, under the old system it’d have been even better with 126 points!

Storm analysis: Cheapie Moses Leo ($235k) wins the vacant backline spot of Xavier Coates, with Nick Meaney shifting to the wing.

With Zac Lomax barred from a move to the Storm, Leo becomes an extremely viable cheapie option.

Barring poor form, he shouldn’t lose the spot anytime soon and enters a gun attacking team.

Joe Chan ($309k) and Ativalu Lisati ($269) win the starting edge spots as expected, with Alec MacDonald at lock.

Shawn Blore is reportedly due back round 2 or 3, while Trent Loiero returns from suspension round 3, so proceed with caution on any back-row cheapie.

Both are options, however I have a slight lean to Lisati based on scoring potential and the slightly lower price.

Meaney on the wing becomes very relevant as the locked in goal-kicker, I won’t start him but he’s a close watch.

He’s averaged 60+ in the past four seasons, with full-time kicking and more tries to come he could push a 70+ average provided the Storm fire.

Eels analysis: With a brutal draw to begin the season against the Storm, Broncos, Dragons and Panthers – three of which are away fixtures – I’m not overly excited on the Eels despite their likely improvement in 2026.

With Josh Addo-Carr injured, Sean Russell starts on the wing.

J’maine Hopgood ($517k) starts at prop, while Jack Williams will begin the game on the edge.

Hopgood has attracted interested off the back of a disrupted 2025 campaign due to injuries and some stints at hooker.

He’s priced on a 53 point average from 53 points per game, in the season’s prior he averaged keeper-like averages of 67 and 73 points per game.

He could return to elite status, I’m just concerned the minutes don’t rise enough to warrant starting, big early watch for me.

Team lists via NRL.com

Warriors analysis: Jacob Laban wins the starting back-row spot and becomes a viable cheapie, with Leka Halasima named on the bench.

At $299k for a starting Warriors back-rower he looks a steal, I’m just concerned about job security, especially with Leka on the bench.

His output wasn’t great last year, averaging 31 points in 34 minutes at just 0.91 points per minute.

If he locks in a 60 minute role he’ll make money, if he plays 80 he’s a must, but will this happen with the Warriors back-row depth?

Keeping in mind Marata Niukore is still to return, as is Mitch Barnett.

I’ll watch and pick up before round 3 price rises if needed.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak beats out former Titans flyer Alofiano Khan-Pereira for a wing spot.

Chanel Harris-Tavita appears to have overcome an injury concern to start at five-eighth.

Roosters analysis: Beniah Ioelu starts at hooker in place of the injured Reece Robson, with Connor Watson to deputise off the bench.

Ioelu will tempt plenty as back-up hooker, but I believe the spot will be short-lived and limit his cash potential.

The Roosters have the bye in round 5, with Robson a big chance to return the following week.

I’m concerned with a star-studded spine his job will be to tackle and distribute and nothing else, not for me.

Blake Steep is starting at lock, with Victor Radley suspended.

Steep is an interesting prospect although awkwardly priced at $394k based on a 40 point average from 34 minutes per game in 2025.

He could start well, but with Robson to return (giving more time in the middle to Watson), along with Radley, I’m happy to see how the minutes play out.

Team lists via NRL.com

Broncos analysis: With Brendan Piakura injured, Jack Gosiewski starts on the edge.

Cory Paix has been named to start at hooker, with Ben Hunt off the bench and Blake Mozer in the reserves.

Outside of the hooking rotation, this line-up is as expected so there’s nothing major to add based on the team list.

Panthers analysis: While there’s value around, Penrith’s attacking contingent don’t interest me to start the season due to boasting arguably the hardest early draw in the competition.

They face the Broncos, Sharks, Roosters, Eels, Storm and Bulldogs to begin their campaign.

I’ll be locking in from round 7 onwards.

With Liam Martin out, Scott Sorensen and Luke Garner start in the back row, with Isaiah Papali’i to play off the bench.

Barring a game day change, this suggests Papali’i is set to be utilised as a middle this season making him an avoid while off the bench.

Martin is also due back as soon as round 2, so ignore the edge back-row for now.

Nathan Cleary’s last two scores against the Broncos in regular season are 129 and 121 points, do with that what you will…

Team lists via NRL.com

Sharks analysis: Sam Stonestreet has beaten out a number of wing candidates to start in place of the injured Ronaldo Mulitalo.

Teig Wilton is out, with Billy Burns to join Briton Nikora in the back-row.

Cheapie prospect Jesse Colquhoun ($322k) has been named to start at lock with Cam McIness unavailable.

Colquhoun is priced on a 34 point average from 31 minutes per game last season.

Note in 15 games he scored just one try and had no linebreaks or try-assists.

I expect an uptick in scoring, but how many minutes will he play?

Craig Fitzgibbon loves his four forward bench which is concerning, nonetheless he recently re-signed on a long-term deal in a strong indication the club like his prospects.

While I’m unsure of minutes, I like him enough to comfortably start him, with a big watch on game time as to whether or not we play him in starting squads early in the season.

I don’t love the long-term play, but the match-up of KL Iro and Sam Stonestreet on the left against Lachlan Ilias, Arama Hau, Jojo Fifita and debutant Sialetili Faeamani is tantalising.

The Sharks scored 46% of their tries down the left edge last season, compared to just 30% on the right.

Titans analysis: Cheapie Sialetili Faeamani ($201k) has been named start on the wing, with Max Feagai at centre.

Jayden Campbell will miss the start of the season with a hamstring injury, with Lachlan Ilias starting at halfback.

All eyes will be on the new Titans goal-kicker, Keano Kini? Beau Fermor?

Popular cheapie Josh Patston has missed the starting squad, with Arama Hau ($235k) named in the back-row.

Like a lot of these cheapie back-rowers, Hau could be an elite buy but also has red flags around job security and minutes.

Wait and watch for me.

Cheapie Cooper Bai ($235k) will play off the bench, with Chris Randall starting at lock.

I sound like a broken record, but I’ll also be waiting and watching Bai to see his game time.

I suspect he’ll be a purchase at some stage and could exceed $500k when minutes arrive, but having recently turned 19 he may be eased into action.

Team lists via NRL.com

Sea Eagles analysis: No major surprise Supercoach pointers at Manly, with cheapie Taniela Paseka named to start at prop on return from an ACL injury.

With his price reduction from limited games he starts at just $328k.

In 2024 he averaged a reasonable 45 points per game, and a very healthy 54 points per game in 2023.

I suspect he’ll be a slow burn cash cow, but it should arrive.

Big watch on rookie star Joey Walsh off the bench, while rookie prop Simione Laiafi hasn’t been named in either grade which suggests he may have a niggle.

Raiders analysis: Ricky Stuart has thrown a few spanners, with Matt Timoko named in reserves and Simi Sasagi starting at centre.

Sasagi has been given dual CTW-2RF position, regardless, I think he’s a trap for anyone interested.

Timoko injured his ankle playing for New Zealand which led to an interrupted pre-season.

He’ll be starting again in no time, and Sasagi will shift into the back-row rotation.

Cheapie Noah Martin ($250k) has been named to start in the back-row ahead of both Zac Hosking and Matty Nicholson.

Buying a house? Wanting to save on your mortgage? Need a quick loan? Refinancing? Contact Mortgage Choice SCW

Martin scored 15 tries in 19 games in NSW Cup last season, with 19 linebreaks to his name!

On all reports this spot was won on merit after being named in the NSW Cup Team of the Year in 2025.

Regardless, with Matty Nicholson returning from injury, Zac Hosking on the bench and Sasagi to return to the rotation I’m happy to wait and watch.

Owen Pattie has missed selection, with Tom Starling at hooker and Jayden Brailey on the bench.

Stuart was quoted as saying he wants Pattie to develop his game with bigger minutes which aren’t available in the top grade as it stands.

Team lists via NRL.com

Dolphins analysis: As Kristian Wolfe revealed earlier, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will start at fullback with Trai Fuller on the bench.

Tommy Flegler ($346k) starts at prop on return from a two-year stint on the sidelines, this makes him very viable for round 1.

Prior to his time out, he had averages of:

2024: 59 points in 47 minutes (4 games)

2023: 47 points in 44 minutes (19 games)

2022: 46 points in 44 minutes (18 games)

While Max Plath will return via QLD Cup this week, and the NRL shortly after, a very light bench points to decent game time for Flegler.

The Dolphins scored 56% of all tries down the left edge last season, compared to just 26% on the right.

Herbie-Cobbo combo anyone?

English recruit Morgan Knowles completes a back-row trio alongside Connolly Lemuelu and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki.

Rabbitohs analysis: With Brandon Smith injured, Bronson Garlick starts at hooker and Peter Mamouzelos off the bench.

With Jamie Humphreys suspended for two weeks, Ashton Ward starts at halfback, with Jayden Sullivan on the bench.

Euan Aitken starts on the edge alongside David Fifita, with Tallis Duncan on the bench.

Keaon Koloamatangi ($666k) looks the winner from this list, with a relatively light bench.

I’d expect Mamouzelos to spell Garlick (who could play some 13), while Tallis Duncan likely plays between edge and middle.

Keaon was a behemoth as a middle last year, making him a genuine option to start the season.
