AFL Supercoach 2026: Bandit’s Skippers – Round 6

AFL Supercoach expert SC Bandit highlights the best captaincy options for your side in round six

AFL

Well done if you found Nick Daicos for his 140 against Carlton last night. Personally, I thought he was a little bit shortchanged given the phenomenal last quarter he had to drag his team over the line, but even so a 140 is nothing to sneeze at and you should take that in an absolute heartbeat.

Don’t stress if you missed Nick though, because there’s still some great match ups this week that we can take advantage of to get a good captain score on the board.

Max Holmes – L3 vs WBD: 128, 71, 97

The Cats midfielder has been an outstanding pick so far this season, having posted five tons on the bounce to be averaging a massive 123.

The Dogs at home looks like a good match up especially with no Tim English, I expect the Cats to control the midfield stoppages and let Holmes do his thing.

Marcus Bontempelli – L3 vs GEEL: 107, 122, 141

A rare quiet game from Bont last week, in fact it was his first score under 113 for the season which tells you just how well he’s started the year.

He could get a tag tonight, but if the Dogs are breaking even in the middle I could see him drifting forward to try and hit the scoreboard which might work in his favour. Still a great VC play tonight.

Christian Petracca – L3 vs ESS: 96, 110, 98

First game back off a month-long injury layoff is the risk here, but with Noah Anderson out for the Suns I don’t think they’ll have the luxury of easing Trac back into proceedings.

If he can pick up where he left off from his first three games, he’ll be posting another big score and could reward those who held him.

Zach Merrett – L3 vs GCS: 159, 106, 97

Bit of a left field one but his last game against the Suns is the flashing light here.

I can’t see the Suns deploying a tag to Zach which means he should be able to run free and pick up as many touches as he wants like he did against Melbourne. It’s a risk but you can back him up with a safe C player later in the round.

Zak Butters – L3 vs HAW: 94, 135, 127

Butters has had a torrid week and I’m sure he’d love to put that behind him with a big game against the Hawks.

But as we saw last week, they’re a tough matchup for midfielders and so I’d probably be looking at more favourable head to heads this week.

Harry Sheezel – L3 vs RICH: 185, 77, 105

That 185 was Sheezel’s famous 54-disposal game against the Tigers in Hobart, so surely that’s a bit of an outlier.

But I think he’s still a great option this week and if I wasn’t taking Nick’s VC, Harry would be getting the C.

Luke Davies-Uniacke – L3 vs RICH: 157, 117, 141

LDU is in ripping form at the moment and has a great record against Richmond, so he’s worth considering this week if you’re looking for a point of difference.

Personally, I think it’s too early to be getting funky with your VC/C choices, so I’m happy to let him go for now.

Max Gawn – L3 vs BRIS: 119, 79, 138

The Lions have been a tough match up for rucks so far this season, but this is Max Gawn we’re talking about here and he’s just different gravy to the rest of the big men in the competition.

I’d still feel safe including Max in my plans for this week.

Luke Jackson – L3 vs WCE: 123, 165, 90

The Dockers have brought in Mason Cox to help shoulder the ruck load after Sean Darcy’s concussion against the Crows, so I think that may put a bit of a ceiling on Jackson’s scoring potential.

Even so, the Eagles have haemorrhaged points to rucks of all kinds this season and I would expect that to continue in the Derby.
