Niko’s AFL Supercoach Watchlist: Buy, Hold, Sell round 18

AFL Supercoach expert Niko gives his best buy, hold and sell candidates heading into round 18 of AFL Supercoach

AFL

We’re back to regular programming; a popular premium is out injured.

This time it’s Lachie Whitfield, but hopefully it’s just for the week and you have adequate cover.

I scored 2486 in round 17 largely thanks to Harry Sheezel as captain, but I still saw a rank decrease as it was a very high-scoring round.

Not owning Gawn, Wanganeen-Milera and Dawson is killing me softly.

Two trades left, and I think it’ll soon be one.

Buy

Josh Goater ($119,900 North Melbourne DEF, B/E -54)

If you need a defender, sure, but it comes with injury risk.  He’s been on the list since 2021 and has only managed 14 games.

The role is positive and could outweigh the negative.

Oliver Francou ($99,100 West Coast MID, B/E -42)

Son of Josh and had a very impressive debut in the loss to Adelaide, where he scored 85 in only 61% game time.

Should hold his spot off that performance, and if that TOG goes up, his score likely will too.

Looks like a decent gamble at the cheapest price.

Bailey Dale ($531,100 Western Bulldogs DEF, B/E 65)

His poor score (where all the Dogs were terrible) will drop out now, and he’s in good form and the #1 distributor off half back.

Tasty matchup against the Eagles this week.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera ($615,500 St Kilda DEF/MID, B/E 73)

I can’t get to him, and I’m jealous if you can.  In supreme form and a must-own.

I should have just held him through his injury.

Izak Rankine ($392,400 Adelaide MID/FWD, B/E 118)

It’s a high breakeven, but he’s lost $150k, and he has the skill and upcoming fixtures to turn it all around. The role is there.

Bailey Smith ($586,700 Geelong MID, B/E 125)

If you’ve been waiting for Baz, the time is now.

Must own for the Supercoach finals.

Hold

Noah Mraz ($119,900 Hawthorn DEF, B/E -50)

Hugely impressive debut with six intercept marks.

He might stay in, but the Hawks have plenty out, so I’d be wary of bringing him in.

Plus, I want those marks going to Sicily, thanks.

Zeke Uwland ($290,500 Gold Coast DEF/MID, B/E -27)

Two tonnes in a row and playing well, but we don’t have the trades, nor does he make enough quick cash to make a trade in viable.

Riley Hamilton ($99,100 GWS Giants MID/FWD, B/E 18)

25 score off 70% TOG, pass.

Hugo Hall-Kahan ($267,500 Adelaide DEF/MID, B/E 30)

Scoring well enough to be your cover across two lines.

Rowan Marshall ($433,700 St Kilda RUC/FWD, B/E 43)

I have no idea why the Saints spent all this money on TDK when they’ve already got an elite ruckman on the books.

You’d think they would have learnt from the Gawn/Grundy fiasco.

Having said that, I don’t think TDK will be out long enough to make RowMar a viable Supercoach pick.

Lachie Whitfield ($487,600 GWS Giants DEF, B/E 112)

Had 20 possessions and 60-odd Supercoach points at halftime when he got elbowed by Shrek.

Early signs are positive that he’ll only miss the one match, so he’s a hold.

Sell

Wade Derksen ($249,900 Carlton DEF, B/E 34)

If you’ve got ample trades, he can go since he’s made his $150k.

No rush though, as he should keep playing with Weitering out, and the breakeven is low.

Samuel Cumming ($328,900 Richmond MID, B/E 66)

CBA’s numbers dropped on the weekend and looks primed to sell after making his $150k.

Sam Walsh ($478,900 Carlton MID, B/E 106)

This is why you save a few trades (if you can) so you can luxury trade guys like this out.

He gave me false hope for the last two weeks.
