Nick Moon recaps the highs and lows of NRL Supercoach Round 19
NRLWell it’s Monday morning and whilst I thought a lot happened over the weekend, take out Nicho’s master class and it was a pretty lowly week!
Our Centre wings couldn’t pick themselves off the canvas and were all collectively not that great. Take out a Tommy Jenkins and our sides are starting to look a bit fragile
We had 12 players score 100 points or more but outside of that, there were a lot of 30s and 40s thrown in..
Hopefully most of you do own Nicho because I’m not sure where your points would have come from had you not owned him!
Koula Than Kaeo saw some green arrows for the first time in a long time, scoring 1307 landing in 40283 overall.. And in the upset of this season, knocked off our Lord and saviour, Tim Williams in the in-house SC playbook League.

Well I’m glad one Nicholas had a great weekend!
Nicho Hynes absolutely obliterated the Dolphins on Saturday afternoon, piling on a monster 196 points in their 66-0 rout.
It was a performance somewhat out of the blue with Nicho scoring 61 and 86 in his last two outings after coming back from injury.
He piled on 145 points in the second half alone and sent owners on an upward trajectory. Those with the VC on him had the easiest loop decision in their life to make whilst those who went in the straight Captain option would have continued to go back and forth to their app all afternoon making sure it was real.
If you’re at this stage of the season and inexplicitly trying to anti-pod him, my suggestion is don’t. Hynes takes on the Dragons Raiders, Titans and Eels in a 4-week stretch over the head-to-head finals. There’s a chance he goes nuclear again in one of those games, but even so there’s every chance he averages 100 from here on in. The Shark seem to have a little bit of mongrel about them this year and it might be just what Nicho has needed.

Herbie and Isaako have been very quiet of late and you could probably write off the weekend’s game and put a line through it but Herbie’s 36 points comes after last weekend’s 55. In back-to-back weeks now. Plenty have tasked him with the vice captain or captaincy role and both have fallen flat
Isaako managed 46 points and considering the dearth of football he saw and the score line, it is somewhat commendable. Although his scores make for some interesting reading. Ever since his 178 against the Bulldogs, he’s only had one score above 83 with a low of 56. He obviously has the ability to go large, but we get to see that in back-to-back weeks or more consistently in 2026
And Greg Marzhew can get in the bin. Picked up a cork and only lasted 37 minutes but if you’re a sucker like me and bought after his 207 well it’s one score above 66 and now three scores of under 38.. dire really considering how much we paid for him!

And two out of three ain’t bad.. no prizes for guessing which one I traded in..
Dylan Lucas looked the best of the lot getting through a mountain of work before setting up Ponga’s second try. He finished the afternoon with a 100 flat and now looks a must-have if you are chasing either head to head glory or overall rankings. Looks a threat every time they hit him short on that left hand edge and it’s only a matter of time before he crashes over for a double and finishes with 130+
Ola scored a try which is starting to become his trademark. Short ball off Jake Simpkin before running over whoever’s in front of him. Was unlucky not to have nabbed a 2nd off a Joey Walsh kick but finished with 90 and hasn’t had a score under 74 since Round 10.
And it doesn’t seem to matter where you put Tallis Duncan, he just still scores points and tries. 104 points in the centres and now has 2 100+ scores in the last 3 weeks. It must be such a joy for owners to have this guy who can bounce between positions and still score no matter what.
Hudson Young did all his damage last Wednesday night so when the Raiders shot out to a lead he was not needed. Those who bought him probably feel a bit ripped off, but let’s give it 3 weeks and see what it produces. If things go pear shape well we always have Zac Hosking to fall back on.

Split the line early and set up Saab and it felt like the Tommy of old was back. Got to half time at 50 points and ended up finishing with 74!
A dream 2 weeks against the Eels and Cowboys has yielded 142 points only. Plummeting in cash, those who held off are now looking like the Smart ones. Takes on the Titans and Sharks in the next two weeks before a bye. But if things don’t perk up, he could be 500k by the time that buy rolls around and then we can’t trade him off to anyone
Averaging under 70 since returning from injury.. yikes
Embed from Getty ImagesMight be a bit harsh on the gun FRF but there’s some alarm bills that are getting louder with Terrell May.
64 and 71 in his last 2 weeks, but the most concerning thing is the drop in minutes. Against the dragons He only played 67 minutes for his 64 and on Friday night only played 58 minutes including only four hit ups.
It’s such a low priority trade though, but if the minutes aren’t there it just becomes another 65 to 70 point Plodder that we’ve paid nearly 800k for.

Well bye-bye to the byes, they are all over for 2026. To say my bye planning was under done could be one of the all-time great understatements.
Definitely be looking back next year and trying to make some changes because whatever I did, did not work!
We say it every year, but keeping someone because they might play a bye round only for them to score 30 odd points is not the answer.
In saying all that though, who knows what the bye rounds are going to look like next year with the Bears coming in!
And here I was about to lock in for 2027!
In a way it’s a bit like therapy for me. I just need to write this down and get it out in the open
For my last boost of 2026, I traded in Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, Hudson Young and Dayne Jennings..
That’s a pretty good indication of how well my year has gone!
