NRL Supercoach Final Word | Round 27 trades and skippers

Well, you made it, folks- the finale of final word for the year.

If you have trades left, I salute you; if you don’t have trades left, I also salute you because it means you went to war and left nothing in the tank. 

Obviously I’ll be back for Supercoach finals trying to snake that Hilux from everyone, but nevertheless I’ll take this moment to say a quick thank you to everyone who read this article throughout the year; hopefully we can end on a high note with some banger final trade-ins.

We ranked our top 5 trade-ins for the week on the podcast, and that’s realistically what it’s all about in the final week of the game.

Out and out, who is gonna get the most points on the board for you this week? This will obviously segue perfectly into captaincy chat.

It seems obvious that the 100+ averaging Latrell Mitchell should be target numero uno for most people this week, especially if you’re expecting a Bunnies whitewash like the majority of people I’ve spoken to. 

AJ and Cody Walker are also extremely valid trade-ins with potential to explode and do serious damage to overall rankings players if they have no protection. 

I think you need at least one of these three guys just in case they put 60pts on them, and a nice fresh Latrell Mitchell is probably the pick of the bunch.

Tom Trbojevic and Scott Drinkwater are also fairly good trade ins just simply because of their ceilings.

Turbo against the Warriors in NZ looks like a bad matchup on paper, but if they rest a few more players, it gets mightily enticing to roll the dice on someone like him. 

The same goes for Drinky, who by all means isn’t in the greatest of form however, his propensity to blitz through teams in Townsville cannot go understated. 

Tevita Naufau is another guy I really, really like this week for a cheeky CTW or flex play pending your team makeup.

He bases like 50 in just runs and tacklebusts and can go berserk with huge 100+ scores if he can jag a pie or two.

Has the great matchup against the Titans and has Herbie inside him – enough said.

However, one man stands above the rest this week in terms of potential ceiling, and his name is Dylan Edwards.

An absolute beast of a player who can turn the screws when he wants to, just like his halfback. 

Something tells me Cleary might take a little backseat in this Tigers matchup and let Edwards and the outside backs have a bit of fun. 

Edwards scored 85 last week with just the one try assist, so we know he has 150+ in him – it’s just whether he wants to towel up the Tigers and a few of his ex-teammates. 

Now onto captains.

With many lacking numbers to field a full 17/18 this week due to the carnage out of Cronulla and the Roosters, a loopable score is anything in the 95-100+ range. 

And there is one man who has been consistently hitting that range pretty often this season by the name of Herbie (the CTW GOAT) Farnworth. 

I said last season I don’t think you can win SuperCoach without him anymore, and it has proven to be absolutely the case this year.

Slap the VC on him and rest comfortably knowing you’re probably gonna bank a loopable score.

Obviously, any of the Souths contingent I’ve mentioned are also viable VC options; AJ probably has the biggest ceiling if that’s your jam. 

Sua Faalogo also emerges as a great C option this week against a depleted Sharks team.

You just get the feeling it’s his time to rip and tear in a meaningless game for both sides. 

Finally, we have the Panthers players in Cleary, Jenkins, and Edwards who are all viable captaincy options this week.

I’ll personally be going for Milky Jenkins and hoping he can chase down whatever try-scoring record that AJ sets for him on Friday night. 

If I were an owner of AJ and Milky, I would seriously consider rolling a VC AJ into C Milky even if I was right at the top of the rankings.
