NFL Supercoach | The Blitz, everything you need to know Week 3

NFL Supercoach expert Oscar Henderson goes through talking points, injuries, breakevens, trades, and more ahead of Week 3

NFL

Welcome to The Blitz Week 3!

Week 2 was once again filled with surprises in the NFL, as we continue to learn which teams are good and which teams are not.

It also marks an incredibly important week from a Supercoach perspective, as we approach the very first price changes of the season.

It is going to be a big trading week for many, and I predict that most managers will be pressing that trade boost button as they look to capitalise on some enticing breakevens.

Week 2 Talking Points

Allen and the Bills are an offensive juggernaut

I pray that everyone reading this is a Josh Allen owner; otherwise, I imagine it has been quite the rough start to the Supercoach season for you.

He has looked absolutely electric to start the season, and is pretty much a must-captaincy option every week.

Someone check Joe Brady’s fantasy football team; I think he may have drafted Allen in the first because he seems determined to get Allen as many touchdowns as possible.

Averaging an outrageous 75 points to start the season, there is just no way he can keep this up…right?

Elite, proven receivers are unmatched

76 points from JSN, 62 points from Lamb, 61 points from Amon-Ra.

The elite wide receivers in the NFL once again proved why they are worth every penny of their premium price tag in Supercoach.

Yes, they may have some off weeks, but they are a part of a small batch of WRs who can give you 150 yards and 2 touchdowns on any given week.

The only way to make sure you don’t miss out on these weekly defining scores is to get them all in. The quicker you can do that, the better.

The NFL is the most volatile sport in the world

I think I made note of this in one of my preseason articles, but one of the things that makes the NFL so great is that no other sport sees so much volatility in week-on-week performance.

Carolina’s defence went from conceding 59 points in week 1 and scoring a fat zero in Supercoach to allowing just 3 points in week 2 for a whopping 52 Supercoach points.

In the opposite direction, you had the Bears go from scoring a breathtaking 59 points in week 1 to just 3 in week 2.

Now I know this is due to so many variables, but the point still stands. The many different variables that can impact games week-to-week bring the extreme volatility.

Injuries, injuries, injuries

Speaking of uncontrollable variables, the injury Gods were out in force in week 2, wreaking havoc on many Supercoach sides and NFL teams.

We will get into all the injuries just below, but they truly are the worst.

From a Supercoach perspective, QB injuries are particularly impactful and can have big implications for all players on that team.

The Tight End Graveyard

I will get into this more when I discuss my trades at the end of the article, but let’s just say many teams may be making a move at TE this week.

I have gone pretty template at the TE position, and my three tight ends combined for a whopping 17 points this week, so alarm bells are certainly ringing.

Availability Watch

In this section, I will give the latest injury and suspension updates, focusing on the more Supercoach-relevant players.

As always with these things, the information given to the public is not always perfect and can sometimes change quickly.

Reminder that IR refers to Injured Reserve, and players put on the IR will miss a minimum of 4 games.

Michael Penix Jr. (ATL): Has been cleared to return from injury and has been named to start this weekend, a much-needed QB change for Atlanta.

DJ Moore (BUF): Suffered a shoulder injury vs the Lions, is considered day-to-day, and is listed as questionable.

Caleb Williams (CHI): Suffered a hamstring injury and is considered week-to-week, listed as doubtful.

Jayden Reed (GB): Suffered a concerning neck injury and has yet to be given a timeline for return

Nico Collins (HOU): Missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury and remains questionable to play this week.

Puka Nacua (LAR): Was a late out last week with a groin injury, considered questionable to play this week.

Jaxson Dart (NYG): Suffered a knee injury and will miss an extended period of time, potentially the whole season.

Dallas Goedert (PHI): Suffered an MCL sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks.

Saquon Barkley (PHI): Suffered a neck/shoulder injury early but returned to the game in the second half, considered questionable going forward.

Sam Darnold (SEA): Listed as questionable, but the reports are that he will practice this week.

Jadarian Price (SEA): Suffered a shoulder injury but is considered to not be serious; listed as questionable.

Jayden Daniels (WAS): Suffered an elbow injury and is still getting tests, expected to miss some time.

Week 3 Fixtures

Game of the week for me is the Denver Broncos hosting the Los Angeles Rams prime time on Monday in a true heavyweight battle.

Other fixtures that I find intriguing this week are both battles of 1-1 teams with high expectations entering the season: Jaguars vs Patriots and Cowboys vs Ravens.

From a Supercoach perspective, there look to be a few uneven matchups to potentially target…

The 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs travel to Miami this week to take on a very weak Dolphins team.

The red-hot Bills host their second game in their new stadium, with the visiting LA Chargers probably the most disappointing team this season to date.

Finally, the 49ers will look to keep rolling against the Cardinals, a divisional rival that is coming off a convincing loss to another division rival in Seattle.

Breakevens

Breakevens are the score required for the player to either make money or lose money.

Prices change based on 3-round averages, and therefore this will be the first week of price rises for players who have scored points in both week 1 and 2.

Generally, when looking at who to trade in, heavily consider the players with low breakevens, as they are likely to rise in price.

Similarly, if you have players with high breakevens in your team, it could be time to consider cutting ties to ensure your team doesn’t lose too much value.

My Trades

After a rough start, Week 2 was a major bounce-back week for ‘Will Fries Bag’, as we managed 617 points for the week.

This placed me in the top 1% for the week and pushed me up 7257 spots to now sit in 2572nd. Still not an ideal ranking, but I am stoked with the rank rise nonetheless.

A major part of this rank rise was thanks to a Sunday night decision to boost and trade Puka Nacua out for JSN.

I have Nacua in draft, so I was tracking his injury news very closely throughout the week. I thought the odds he played were slim, so I pulled the trigger on the sideways trade that ended up banking me 76 points!!!

A stroke of luck in my decision, maybe that I am very grateful for.

Anyway, moving on to my trades this week. I am wary of burning a lot of trades early with back-to-back boosts, but with many exciting trade options this week, I think it may be worth it.

Most of my thoughts are preliminary and far from locked in, but let’s start with the one trade that pretty much makes itself.

A rookie WR swap with De’Zhaun Stribling out for Denzel Boston.

Stribling is on IR, so no use keeping him. Meanwhile, Boston has started the season on fire, which has him set to skyrocket in price with a breakeven of -40.

I think this is far from a slam-dunk trade with Cleveland’s QB worries and the fact that Boston has benefited from long touchdown plays in back-to-back weeks, which is not sustainable.

However, it’s a case of picking the best of a bad rookie bunch. He guarantees you at least some cash generation in a season where cash generation may be hard to come by.

Elsewhere, I need to get rid of Saquon Barkley, who is set to leak major cash coming off an injury-affected 4 points.

I already own Gibbs, Kenneth Walker, and CMC.

I really want Bijan Robinson, as I think he for sure finishes the season as a top-4 scorer at the position, but I can’t afford him unless I downgrade elsewhere.

Atlanta has been a train wreck so far with Cooper Rush at QB, but with Penix coming in this week, you would expect things on the offence to improve.

I am praying things are a bit rusty for Penix on return, and I can swoop in on Bijan at a reduced price in a few weeks.

Instead, I am looking to trade in the King Derrick Henry at a slightly more affordable price.

Henry exploded in week 1 with a hat-trick of touchdowns, before a quieter week in the Ravens’ loss this past week.

Henry basically did not touch the ball in the second half. This coincided with the Ravens’ offence stalling and the Saints coming back from behind to beat them.

I expect offensive playcaller Declan Doyle to learn from this and lean more heavily into Henry and the rushing attack in weeks to come.

Just quietly, I think Henry’s ceiling may actually be higher than ever, as the Ravens look to incorporate him into the passing game some more.

Coming off a season where he caught just 15 receptions in 17 games, Henry has caught 4 in 2 games already.

I know it is a tiny sample size, but one to keep an eye on.

The final trade I am eyeing is Colston Loveland to Dalton Kincaid.

I chose to keep Loveland last week despite his dud Week 1 performance, and sorry to those who followed, as Loveland managed a single point in Week 2.

I still think he comes good. This past week, he was playing in torrential rain in a game where zero touchdowns were scored, and he was constantly asked to block the Vikings’ constant blitzes.

In saying that, with Caleb Williams going down injured and likely to miss at least this week, I think it may be a case of not being stubborn and just cutting ties with Loveland for now.

What makes this decision all the easier is that there is a PERFECT replacement waiting to take his spot in my Supercoach side, by the name of Dalton Kincaid.

Kincaid is one of the best receiving TEs in football, and he has started the season off on fire.

He currently has a 25% target share in the league’s best offence as he seems to be Allen’s go-to guy, especially if DJ Moore is out.

Even so, I expect Allen to keep finding Kincaid all season long and for Kincaid to keep producing.

In a scarce position, Kincaid is the perfect Loveland replacement for me at a similar price.

My Captains

Captaincy picks are thankfully a lot more straightforward than trades.

My captains basically pick themselves this week, with VC Josh Allen at home against the Chargers.

I expect to loop and will be up nice and early anyway to watch my Vikings.

But if Allen somehow does not produce, I will happily ride with the C on Lamar Jackson against the Cowboys.
