EPL Supercoach Final Word | Gameweek 8 trades, fixtures, captains

Quantium data analyst and 23rd-placed EPL Supercoach finisher Harry West gives his thoughts on trades, fixtures, and captains ahead of Gameweek 8

EPL

I scored 134 last week, and there was a bit of panic along the way. I’d locked in Isak and Szoboszlai out for Pedro and Henderson. Then the Chelsea game started; Pedro and Hendo were locked, and I saw Isak and Szobo were starting.

Panic time, but I found a way to do it. Wissa out and Wirtz out, and I was very happy to make both happen. I needed more money, though, so I boosted out Muharemovic for Mfuni. What a fail. Wirtz scored, Muharemovic assisted, Pedro blanked, and Szobo got injured. At least Isak scored.

Rank moved up to 1.7k.

Chelsea: They love playing Spurs. Chelsea have won all six of the last meetings. Get the triple up in attack; we have been talking about it for weeks.

Arsenal: 48% clean sheet odds this week, and 57% odds against Hull in Gameweek 10. Shame there is a Liverpool match next week. Feel bad for Saka owners; just get a triple up on their defence.

Brentford: Remember Igor Thiago? He’s £7.15m now, down £3.5m for the season, with a solid 11 last week. He could be an amazing option this week.

Trade ins

Gabriel Magalhães (£7.97m): Easiest buy of the year. The best defender of last season is down to a bargain price, with a low breakeven of 6 and an amazing fixture against Everton. I wish I could do it, but it’s such an easy lock and load trade. Don’t second-guess it.

Jack Hinshelwood (£6.48m): Am I about to buy a midfielder before he plays Liverpool and City, who is working his way back from injury? That -22 breakeven is mighty tempting. He started midweek and played 67 minutes, so hopefully he is almost back to full fitness. I think he could be a long-term player, so I’ll likely do it and just bench him.

Morgan Gibbs-White (£10.15m): One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. People were dumping him last week with his injury and high breakeven of 19, and he didn’t play. But he’s playing up against Ipswich, and he’s likely a season keeper, so I can’t blame anyone for jumping in.

Hill (£6.58m) and Silva (£4.38m): This is the last time I’ll pump up these two. Bournemouth had the 2nd hardest fixtures to start the season, with the 2nd lowest expected goals against. Crazy hard fixtures, amazing defence, just a bit “unlucky” to let in more than they should. These boys are crazy value and base stat monsters. I would suggest 2x defender transfers this week: get Gabriel and one of these guys and thank me later.

Phil Foden (£6.88m): A bargain thanks to that juicy red card and -5. If you want to play City roulette, you could do a lot worse. With Semenyo out for a while, fingers crossed there is less rotation. Part of me wants to do it; am I crazy? He scored a hat-trick and an assist midweek in the Champions League, so that means he is benched now…

Trade outs

Newcastle players: Hold for one more week. Palace have had the worst defence to start the season, and Newcastle have the 3rd worst attack but the 3rd best fixtures. I’ll hold Harvey Barnes (£9.47m) for one more unless I do more wild Saturday night trading when I see Foden starts.

Jacquet (£8.08m): Hold. I know you want a player to ditch for Gabriel, but Liverpool are a top 4 defence. Find another way.

Bruno Fernandes (£9.05m): Last time I promise. Those comments about the manager, despite being 100% spot on, are not going to go down well. Surely he is benched…Surely the manager is gone soon, and Bruno becomes the world’s best buy.

The injured guys:

  • Bukayo Saka (£10.04m): His data is unreal, and he’s been dodging points. Grab the Chelsea forward you don’t have.
  • Dominik Szoboszlai (£8.22m): This hurts; he was my trade-in for Bruno. Yes, he lost me less money than Bruno did, but a couple of points would have been nice. Surely they ease him back now; I can’t carry someone worth that much.
  • Antoine Semenyo (£10.92m): Out until mid-December.

Belloumi (£11.26m): If you are a lucky owner, take the £7.1m gain and get him out immediately. Hull looked toothless last week. Best pick of the season; don’t lose those gains.

My planned moves

  • Szoboszlai > Hinshelwood
  • Branthwaite > Gabriel

I’m benching Manzambi against City, who play early. If he dominates, then I’ll consider holding Szobo to loop on Manzambi. I’m tempted to do Branthwaite to Gabriel, but I’ve been burning so many trades.

Captains

VC:

  • Erling Haaland: an easy choice

C:

  • Riccardo Calafiori: the Arsenal option with an amazing clean sheet fixture and attacking upside
  • Cole Palmer, João Pedro or Rogers: the Spurs matchup

I’ll be doing Haaland into Palmer.
