NBA Supercoach expert Stephen Defries reveals his trades, captains and point of difference players to consider for NBA Supercoach Week 2
NBAThe first week of NBA SuperCoach is in the bag, and what a way to finish it. Luka dropped 52 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists on the Jazz in the final game of the week for 56 SuperCoach points. The best single score of the round. If he was your captain, take a bow.
Sabonis (116) and Maxey (115 from 4 games) topped the week, with Ty Jerome (103) and Luka (100) the only others to crack triple figures.
Those who avoided the Joker dodged a bullet in his first match-up, yielding just 11 points before he put up a monster 53 in his second. With a high breakeven this week, picking him up in week 5 looks like the right play.
17 months after the Achilles injury, Jason Tatum started out the week slow before closing it with an emphatic 36, 9 and 7 with 3 steals against the Knicks to post 44 SuperCoach points. More on him below.
The rookies didn’t disappoint either. Caleb Wilson, Cameron Boozer, Yaxel Lendebor and Darius Acuff Jr all scored well to get the price rises moving.

Unfortunately, I was in the avoid Philly boat, which proved costly with Maxey putting up the 2nd highest score of the week. Jalen Brown threatened to do more damage than the 15th-highest score in a relief for non-owners.
778 for me this week. The 2 guns and midrange strategy is off to a modest start, with Brandon Miller the only real concern. Can someone ask him to stop taking 3s.
I’ve spoken enough about Luka. Lakers play 4 games this week and 4 the next. Just make it happen.
Jalen Johnson was the top-scoring gun outside of Luka with 97, including 26, 9, and 16 against Houston for 40. Atlanta play 4 and 4. Heβs very close to a must-have.
Giannis had 85 in his first week in Miami, but 13 in the final game with the Heat sitting at 0 and 3. SGA had a quiet middle game of 11 but finished with 35 against the Clippers for 83. Ant went 46, 10 and 17, which tells you everything about owning him next to LaMelo.
Joker is Joker. 11 then 53. Denver has 3 games this week. Hold if you own.
Time to see how my midrange calls held up.
Tatum is back. Yes, he had a shocker in the opener. 6 of 23 and a score of 9 as Boston blew a 22-point lead in Detroit. But game 2 was unbelievable. 36 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals on 14 of 26, a perfect 5 of 5 from the line and only 2 turnovers. That’s 44 SuperCoach points in 37 minutes.
No restrictions, no limp, and the No.1 option tag is his alone. I said I’d be pouncing in week 2 and that hasn’t changed. Boston play 4 and 4 over the next fortnight. Straight in.
Walker Kessler was the best of my midrange calls. 36 and 43 to start the week, including 3 steals and 6 blocks against the Clippers. Ty Jerome opened with 45 points for a score of 50 and finished with 103 for the week. Both were bargain prices with great breakevens. The cash is coming.
Jaylen Brown, the Week 1 rental, did his job with 82 from 4 games. Just don’t look at his last one. 5 of 20 and 4 of 8 from the line in Detroit for a score of 6. Philly drop to 3 games this week, so move him on as planned.
Trae Young averaged 24.3 with double-digit assists in 2 of his 3 games. Herro had 62 from 3 games. Ware started slow off the bench before 19 and 13 for 31 against Philly. Deni had 23 and 27 in his 2 games, and Portland played 3 then 4.
Garland had 30 and 26 points, but 18 turnovers across the week cost him. 52 points. Not yet.
Sabonis is the one I said to wait on, and he went 39, 47, and 30 for 116. The best score of the week. Hands up.
Dyson Daniels (87) and Dejounte Murray (81) are the other surprises. Daniels had 7 steals against Charlotte.
If you missed Wilson and Boozer, you need to right that wrong this week. Both are scoring well above their price, and the cash will follow.
Lendeborg is the pick of the rest. 27 and 29 in his last two, and Golden State plays 4 games this week. Acuff is a mixed bag. 33 points scored him just 19, and his opener was -2 after going 5 of 24. He shot 24 of 73 across the week. Volume isn’t everything when misses cost a point.
Peterson has been slow with 34 for the week. Wagler opened with 24 against the Kings, then 9 and 13. Maluach went 9 and 9 with 2 blocks for 22 against the Warriors, but Phoenix only played 2 games this week.
Domantas Sabonis SAC β 2.3% owned
The top scorer of the week at a midrange price. 17.3 rebounds a game, and he’s the hub in Sacramento. Health was the concern, and he’s answered it.
Walker Kessler LAL β 3.9% owned
88 points from 3 games, catching lobs from Luka. Lakers play 4 and 4. A concerning night in Utah last start, but he did look very good before that.
Dyson Daniels ATL β 2.5% owned
13 steals in 3 games. Atlanta play 4 and 4, and the stocks keep his floor high.
Ty Jerome MEM β 0.6% owned
103 points in 3 games as the starting point guard. Barely anyone had him heading into week 1. Still a bargain with huge price rises incoming.
Wendell Carter Jr. ORL β 0.3% owned
29, 31 and 19. Shooting 19 of 25 from the field and rarely turns it over. Cheap points with no misses to drag him down.
Dejounte Murray NOP β 0.4% owned
81 from 3 games after an uncertain preseason. Steals and assists at a discount.
