EPL Supercoach Final Word | Gameweek 9 trades, fixtures, captains

Quantium data analyst and 23rd-placed EPL Supercoach finisher Harry West gives his thoughts on trades, fixtures, and captains ahead of Gameweek 9

EPL

I scored 127 last week, a solid effort that moved me inside the top 1k, and my team value skyrocketed.

But I own 5 of the top 6 most traded-out players. I have too many players out of form, topped out in money, or injured.

Fixtures are tough this week. Spurs are the standout: Palace have looked terrible defensively, while Spurs have shown resilience.

Bournemouth are about to go on an amazing run, which is why I’ve been pumping up their assets for weeks. They are 2nd for expected clean sheets over the next 3.

Villa, like Bournemouth, are about to go on a good run of fixtures, starting against Fulham. They are top 5 for projected goals over the next 3 weeks.

Trade ins

António Silva (£5.08m) and James Hill (£7.58m): I said I wouldn’t mention them again. Just do it.

Marcus Tavernier (£10.32m): Yes, Bournemouth have a great run, and he has been on fire, but you are paying top dollar for him. Great pick, but I’m reluctant at that price. I’m looking for value.

Nicolas Jackson (£8.54m): We are a couple of weeks too late, but Villa are on the uptrend. If you are ditching João Pedro (£12.15m), Jackson is my favourite trade-in.

Declan Rice (£11.07m): 6 out of 8 games have been double digits, despite scoring no goals. The bonus 2 points per clean sheet helps. It’s a shocking fixture this week, but he feels guaranteed to finish as a top 5 midfielder, so I’m OK paying a high but fair price for him.

I want to suggest more mids, as it’s a position many will want to trade in. But as we saw with the fixtures, it’s a tough week with low-scoring odds. People feel overpriced, or are coming down in price with a tough run. I’ll hold my trades in this position until I really like someone.

Trade outs

Pedro: The big decision for the week. He is apparently out for “weeks”, whatever that means. I doubt he is back for the next 2 games. The question is whether he is back for Leeds after the international break on 21st Nov. If you think no, trade. If you think yes and you can cover him for 2 weeks, you can save the trade. He is someone traders will want back. Jackson is so tempting, though.

Jordan Henderson (£9.96m): He’s made his money, plenty of it. Now is the time to go, as he is dropping in cash. Shame, I don’t want any of the mids this week. I’ll hold him to trade to Pascal Groß (£13.45m) next week.

Riccardo Calafiori (£9.32m): Hold him and bench him for the tough game. If he plays next week vs Hull, you’ll want him.

Cole Palmer (£7.66m): Rage trades are fun, but don’t sell a good player at that price. Hold.

My planned moves

Mfuni > Silva is locked. I wanted Silva 2 weeks ago and just couldn’t afford it. If Stephen Mfuni (£5.4m) starts, I’ll consider another move though.

I can afford Hendo to Rice or Tavernier. It’s tempting but not locked. Pedro to Jackson is another obvious move I could make. I’m on the fence with both of these. I need to stop trading at some point.

I’ll just hold Dominik Szoboszlai (£8.22m) now.

Captains

Captaincy is tough this week.

VC:

Palmer and Rogers: Good VC options, but Chelsea look a lot worse without Pedro. Thankfully it’s United.

Hill: Scored 19 last week with no attacking points. A cheeky option for a VC. It’s not very fun cheering for a clean sheet though.

C:

Haaland: Despite a tough fixture, City are still the highest predicted goals. Safe and boring.

Jackson: Risky, but it’s always fun captaining a traded-in player.

I’ll be boring with Palmer into Haaland, and I’ll take any double-digit VC score.
