The Random Stats Guy analyses the player ownership of the top ranked Supercoach teams in Round 18

NRL

Analysing the NRL Supercoach ownership of players across the top teams heading into the last week of Supercoach.

To make life easier when identifying true ownership of NRL Supercoach players, each week we’ll break it down into ranking brackets.

Whether you’re chasing ranks, or playing it safe up top, it’ll help identify the best ways to try and achieve your Supercoach goals.

The tables below sets out the proportion of Supercoach teams in the top 1%, top 5%, top 10% and overall that own each player.

This season, there are over 150,000 Supercoach teams, so the top 1% would be roughly the top 1500 teams, top 5% is the top 7,500 teams and top 10% is top 15,000 teams.

Let’s take a look at the ownership of players heading into Round 18.

Fullback

James Tedesco has leapfrogged Ryan Papenhuyzen as the most popular fullback option among the top 1% of Supercoaches.

His ownership was at 17% overall at Round 11, and now has skyrocketed to 37% with no more byes for the rest of the season.

His projected 3RA is 97.3, which is the highest of any other player in Supercoach by 13 points – aka he is a must-have.

Scott Drinkwater tonned up against the Titans with two tries and two assists, and is the 8th most traded-in player this week.

His opposition is the polar opposite this week, however, he still managed to score 105 at AAMI Park in a 24-point loss – so he can still find points!

CTW

Mark Nawaqanitawase is the most traded-in player this week with over 10,000 Supercoaches flocking to the Roosters flyer.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t named on the sting this week, where he averages 83 compared to 64, however against a depleted and out-of-form Tigers side, I don’t think that will matter much!

Josiah Karapani delivered for his 50,000 new owners last week with 71 points.

Believe it or not, it was his lowest score of the season, as that Broncos’ left edge keeps piling on the attacking stats.

By the Broncos’ Round 20 bye, owners can cash over $200k, but if the Broncos keep playing like they are, he could even be a season-keeper.

Cheapies Jed Stuart and Kane Bradley have been popular buys this week.

Stuart won’t rise too much next week as he’s expected to jump $41k, and Bradley will only play his 2nd game this weekend, so owners will be sweating that Joe Chan doesn’t have a Greg Inglis-esque performance in his first game at centre, and Kane keeps his spot in Round 19.

Jamayne Isaako has been the most traded-out player this week for the top 1% with the Dolphins’ bye.

5/8

Matt Burton has sparked some interest by the top 1% as a popular trade for the injured Luke Metcalf.

He has an uninterrupted run home and faces a depleted Broncos side, a defenceless Cowboys team, and then the inconsistent Dragons, Manly and Tigers.

So he isn’t a bad POD option at all at just 4.5% ownership for the top 1%!

HLF

Jahrome Hughes scored his 2nd ton in 3 games with a try and two assists against the Sharks at home.

He is an interesting prospect as he has scored 3 tons in his last 6 matches, but those other 3 scores haven’t been pretty reading – 41 vs Sharks (1 assist), 32 vs Titans, and 45 vs Souths (1 try).

But with his ownership among the top 1% now up to 80%, he is a brave anti-POD option – particularly coming up against a depleted Cows side, then the Knights and Manly.

Nicho Hynes is the 5th most traded-out player this week, with most people going from him to Hughes.

Hynes hasn’t tonned up in his last 7 games, but he has delivered 60+ scores in 5 of them, including 90 and 62 in his last 2 losses.

With the 2nd highest Supercoach average for a HFB this season (70), he is a solid back-up hold will deliver you a decent score.

2RF

The Bulldogs’ 2nd rowers, Jacob Preston and Viliame Kikau, have been the most popular 2RF replacements this week.

Preston has been projected to average the most points by a 2nd rower in the 3 weeks (79.7), whilst Kikau lands in the top 20 of all players with an average of 68.3

The beauty of Preston has been his ability to score tries, scoring at least 62 points in the 6 games he has crossed for a try this season.

However, when he doesn’t score, he has just one score over 52 in 4 games…

Viliame Kikau has proven this season that he can score points, regardless of whether he scores or not.

He averages 68 without scoring this season, including 109 points against Souths two games ago.

He could be a more reliable option, particularly with the Dogs’ consistent left edge roster of Burton, him, Xerri and Montoya.

FRF

Addin Fonua-Blake slips into the top 10 most traded out players this week, with the Sharks on a bye.

He recorded his 3rd lowest score of the season last week against the Storm; however, he did play 7 fewer minutes than his usual 65-ish.

Most Supercoaches have used him to bring in Jacob Preston.

HOK

Not much going on in the hooker department this week.

Tom Starling has picked up some interest, potentially as a short-term fix for Harry Grant.

However, the Raiders have the bye next week so don’t see the need.
