NRL Supercoach Final Word | Round 25 trades and skippers

Former NRL Supercoach champion Dez Creek gives his final word ahead of NRL Supercoach round 25, including his trade and skipper plans

NRL

Let’s be honest, there’s not much left to say at this point in the SuperCoach season that you haven’t already heard multiple times.

Teams may rest players in the final round, or two, so be prepared, I.e have a plan.

If you’re like me and have no trades left, then the plan is to hope you’ve already won your H2H comp before the final round of the game.

I have not prepared for mass restings whatsoever, and since the minor premiership race isn’t over, nor is the top 4/8 race, I think we might get less than usual, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

I very rarely address specific fixtures when writing this final word article; however, this week we have quite possibly one of the best paper matchups for the Roosters in a long time.

A single match like this could be the difference maker for many H2H and overall coaches alike.

Will you be a Marky Mark owner for his 5-try haul? Do you own a fresh-off-a-rest James Tedesco, the fullback goat of SuperCoach?

You can see where this is going. Your last few trades, if you have any, should be on Roosters attacking assets.

Sam Walker and Robert Toia are two more Roosters that I see as highly viable final purchases who both have huge upside considering their ownership percentages.

I’ve firmly been seated on the captain Nicho Hynes every week train as of recent weeks, however there’s definitely room for differentiation this week.

Dolphins, Knights and Roosters all have captainworthy fixtures for their star upside players.

Whilst the Sharks are without star playmaker Braydon Trindall, who has been nothing but the perfect foil for Hynes this season, they’re also up against a Gold Coast team who have nothing to lose and multiple attacking threats.

That being said, as a non-owner of any Roosters and with no trades left to bring any of them in, I’ll be sticking with Hynes.

Farnworth, Isaako and Ponga are all extremely good shouts for VC, and seeing as I’m without a fullback this week thanks to Drinkwater (bye) and Walsh (injury), I’ll be happy to take any score over 100 for the loop, given the fact I have to take the AE at fullback.

Tallis Duncan and Hamish Stewart continue to star at 2RF, showing off consistent base and upside week in, week out.

Stewart’s 91pts last week saw him overtake Heilum Luki as the season’s top 2RF total points scorer, and what’s more impressive is that he has done it in one less game than Luki, who has had a monstrous season himself, averaging 70+ with 10 tries for some insane perspective.

My final word of advice for SuperCoaches heading into the final stretch and H2H finals is to remain calm and composed (by checking team lists and having alerts on for late outs) and to back your POD players in to get you over the line.

You bought certain players for a reason, and this is the sort of week for them to prove their merit to you.

So have faith, stick to your plans, and stay as aggressive as necessary to conquer your opponents.
