NFL Supercoach Final Word | Trades, Captains, and PODs Week 2

NFL Supercoach expert Eden Richards gives his trade plans, captains, and PODs ahead of NFL Supercoach Week 2

NFL

Week 1 has been won and done, and what an opening round it was!

The NFL Melbourne Game was everything we had hoped for and more, with 100,000 fans gathering at the MCG to watch the 49ers put on a show.

The same can’t be said for the Rams…

With Friday having been and gone, we turned our attention to a full slate of Monday morning games.

We saw Lamar Jackson and the Ravens showcase a new high-powered offensive strategy, the Lions and Jahmyr Gibbs run their way to victory, and Josh Allen putting his hand up as the early MVP favourite.

Then the Chiefs did their thing, and we realised normal service had resumed… Jeez, they looked good.

And they weren’t the only ones, with Drake Maye (yes, that’s the name of my Supercoach team – the player had a stinker) putting up 625 points.

If you didn’t have a good start, fear not; it’s a long season ahead, and there’s plenty of time to right the wrongs of Week 1.

Week 2 Trade Plans

Before I get into my trade plans, I want to stress the importance of not panic trading. You will regret it.

If you bought a gun and they had a slow start to the season (I’m looking at you, Ja’Marr Chase), do not trade them.

You need to be patient. These players almost always come good in the long run, and you can’t be wasting trades after Week 1.

There are no price changes this week, so you have no need to stress about losing money, and there’s a very good chance these proven guns will bounce back in Week 2.

The main reason to trade this week is injury, and only if it’s a relatively long-term injury. I’m talking IR – so anything that’s four weeks or more.

It’s why I’m trading AJ Brown, who looks to be missing at least six weeks with a high-ankle sprain.

I’m particularly frustrated about this because I didn’t even have Brown in my team until the very last minute when I decided to trade out Christian Watson for him… Regrets.

I had been spruiking Watson all preseason, even writing about him in my mid-rangers column.

Unfortunately, I didn’t go with my gut, instead wanting to own Brown so I could watch him in the season-opener against the Seahawks.

A terrible mistake by me, with Brown going off injured and Watson popping off with a huge 59 points to start the season.

Watson was the highest-scoring WR in Week 1, and there’s no reason to suggest he will slow down. He has immense upside, and most importantly, he’s finally healthy.

He’s a bargain at $14,710,000, and I’ll be bringing him in for Brown. His BE is -14, meaning when price changes kick in, he’s guaranteed to make money because of his fast start.

If you’re not sold on Watson and have a bit of extra cash, another great option is Chris Olave.

Olave is $17,620,000, and if he stays in his current form, it won’t be long before he cracks the $20 million mark.

He has scores of 63, 43, and 46 over his last three games, racking up 28 receptions and 449 yards. He is an absolute gun and the buy of the week if you can afford him.

Week 2 Captaincy Plans

I captained Josh Allen last week, and he delivered, putting up 70 points in a big Bills win.

While I’m tempted to do the same this week, he plays in the first game of the round, and I think it’s a safer bet to put the VC on him.

This will allow me to utilise the VC loophole if he scores 60+, which is entirely possible.

The Bills play the Lions on Friday, and this has all the makings of a shootout. The last time the two teams met, they combined for 90 points, with Allen throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two more.

He could be in line for a huge score, but just in case things don’t go to script, I’ll be putting the VC on him.

With the VC on Allen, I’ll be looking to put the C on Bijan Robinson. The Falcons RB started the season with a bang, scoring a touchdown and recording 173 all-purpose yards.

This culminated in a score of 54, and I think he might beat that against a terrible Panthers rush defence.

Carolina gave up 291 rushing yards (2nd-worst in Franchise history) and six rushing TDs (worst in Franchise history) to the Bears last week, and now they come up against one of the best RBs in the League.

If Robinson plays to his best, he could have a day out, and I think he’s a relatively safe captaincy option.

Week 2 PODS

D’Andre Swift (RB) $16,800,000 – 1.1% owned

Carolina were horrendous, but don’t let that take away from Swift’s performance.

Swift had himself a day. Amassing 19 touches, 134 yards, and scoring three touchdowns.

He’s obviously not going to do that every week, but he’s certainly one to keep an eye on going forward, especially with the Bears’ aggressive running game and emphasis on explosiveness over efficiency.

Most pleasingly for Swift owners, he out-touched fellow RB Kyle Monangai 19 to 12. There was conjecture over who would be the dominant RB in this Bears backfield, and it appears Swift holds the keys – for now anyway.

Christian Watson (WR) – $14,710,000 – 2.1% owned

Yep, I’m bringing him up again.

Week 1 was just a taste of what Watson can do this season, and he’s still criminally under-owned.

There’s no Romeo Doubs, no Dontayvion Wicks, and Tucker Kraft is still working his way back to his best.

The door is open for Watson to go on a serious run of form, and that means plenty of points for owners.

I understand if you want to wait and see what he produces in Week 2, but for me, he’s the perfect swap for AJ Brown if you want a POD with high upside.
