NFL Supercoach | Buy, Hold, Sell, Week 7

NFL Supercoach expert Josh Clutterbuck goes through the best buy, hold, and sell options for Week 7

NFL

G’day coaches and welcome back! Week 6 is in the books, and it’s safe to say that we’ve seen the most surprising string of games to date, results-wise and Supercoach-wise! Big name players are failing to fire, cheapies are emerging, and fires need to be put out everywhere!

Before we get into that, a quick recap on the week and last week’s moves. First off, apologies for some horrendous calls. The beauty of writing an article 5 days before kick-off is that things change! Lots! Stevenson is now looking like an all-time worst play; Lloyd is about to lose his role somehow to Josh Jacobs, who I think everyone is surprised is still in the league.

Evans is out with an injury; Shough balled out with an injury. I really questioned myself, sitting in a bed in Toowoomba, 3 sheets to the wind, reading this news at 3am Sunday morning.

My team went okay this week. 449 was disappointing initially, then I saw myself rise almost 1000 ranks, and I felt a bit better. Nabers was the standout for me, and it appears as though it doesn’t matter who is throwing the ball in New York; they’re going to target Nabers.

Maye came in and scored a solid 46 whilst playing average ball, which ended up being 7 points shy of the man he replaced, Shough. Playing without a 4th RB hurt, and the injury to Warren was frustrating, which led to Sadiq and his 3 points playing a part in my team. Other than that, my receivers outside of Boston scored well enough.

Once again, there are fires everywhere in my team, and I need to find a way to put them out. Here’s to hoping that some of these guys can help.

Buy

Joe Burrow (QB Cincinnati Bengals, $24.9m, 22 BE, 7% ownership)

I love this man. And I love his schedule. I typically don’t like buying pocket passers with minimal run game as my QB’s, but Burrow is an exception. The talent on this team is undeniable, and Burrow has been playing well throughout the season. With a lowest score of 30 thus far, Burrow has been a man on a mission, getting the ball to Chase, Higgins, and Geisicki.

The matchup this week is tough, but he should hit his BE. The matchups afterwards are what entice me. The only real threats to Burrow are potentially the Steelers, the Chiefs, and the double-up games against the Ravens (which typically are shootouts), as well as whether or not his o-line can keep him healthy.

Burrow has a real chance to ball out for the rest of the year and should be seriously considered as your 2nd QB option, especially since he has had his bye already.

Jared Goff (QB Detroit Lions, $25.83m, 29 BE, 1% ownership)

Goff is having a sneaky good season in the SuperCoach world with a lowest score of 32 and 2 scores in the high 50s to date. He too has had his bye and should be considered a POD for those going forward. Goff will benefit from a poor Lions defence by being out on the field more, and because of the weapons he has around him, he should be in shootouts racking up points.

With Williams proving to be a deep threat, Gibbs one of the best RB’s in the league, and ASB an absolute stud, Goff can pick apart a team across the field and score rapidly. He does have the occasional 5 interception game in him but we take the good with the bad.

This weekend’s game against Green Bay could be an all-time shootout, and I would’ve had him above Burrow; however, I think he has a tougher overall schedule for the rest of the year with 2 games against the Vikings and Bears as well as the Patriots. The 1% is a great POD, though.

Tanner McKee (QB Philadelphia Eagles, $6.41m, -4 BE, 0.5% ownership)

A very low ownership for a good reason. No one could’ve predicted the season-ending injury to Hurts, which has a real chance of crippling the Eagles’ already struggling season. McKee has been given the green light as the QB1 in Philly and has the perfect matchup against Dallas to really state his case to own the job for the rest of the year.

McKee isn’t someone to start regularly, at this stage at least. With most people owning Allen, McKee is the perfect low-priced option at the position to plug and play without wasting trades on getting rid of Allen and bringing him back in. Here’s to hoping he has a 4 TD performance against one of the worst defences in the league and keeps that spot all year!

Chuba Hubbard (RB Carolina Panthers, $16.48m, -6 BE, 14% ownership)

One of the standout players of the year so far. Chuba started at $9m, so if you’ve been on him from the start, great stuff. If not, it isn’t too late to jump on the Chuba train. A 28-carry performance this past weekend has highlighted Carolina’s intent to ground and pound behind the lead back. The matchup this week against the Bucs is oh so juicy, and I can’t wait to see what he can produce.

For the first time in his career, he doesn’t have competition to take touches away from him. Whether or not he can handle the workload for a season is another thing but all signs point to yes. The schedule is particularly enticing as well. Being in one of the weaker divisions, Chuba still has 2 games against the Bucs, Saints, and 1 against the Falcons.

He will face tough matchups against Denver and Seattle, but outside of that, Chuba has a real chance to be a top 5 RB this season. He’s had his bye and is already the 5th best RB based on average PPG and is above the likes of JT, Cook, CMC, Kyren, and Javonte – players who are all between $20 and $23.5m. Get on now; it’s the cheapest he’ll be for the remainder of the year.

Germie Bernard (WR Pittsburgh Steeler, $6.98m, -28 BE, 3% ownership)

The Germ! What a breakout game for this young star. With Wilson and Pittman on IR for at least the next 4 weeks, Germ becomes a real breakout star and potential cash cow for coaches. To have someone like Aaron Rodgers praise your game so highly shows how special this young talent is. Over the past 2 weeks, he has seen 21 targets and had 17 receptions, including a game-winning TD this past weekend.

Considering how hard it was to find a cheapie WR last week, Bernard should be bought sooner rather than later. With at least 4 weeks of increased production, he can be the perfect plug-and-play option during the bye period. With other Cheapies hitting their ceiling, it’s time to see Bernard skyrocket through the roof.

Omar Cooper (WR NY Jets, $4.6m, -23 BE, 0.3% ownership)

I’m only including him here if you can’t afford to make the Bernard move. Cooper is going to generate cash and has some upside. Cooper had 6 receptions on 7 targets for over 100 yards and a TD against the Patriots on the weekend, which is awesome. Geno seemed to really trust him, which is great.

I do, however, post this with a buyer beware. He’s on such a bad team, with Geno throwing the ball to him, which can’t be ignored, and he’s on a team awaiting the return of Adonai Mitchell, who could be back this week pushing him further down the pecking order. Omar should be seen as a very short-term cash cow who could crash back to earth at any minute, just like Darius Cooper of the Eagles.

Hold

Josh Allen (QB Buffalo Bills, $30.29m, 50 BE, 61% ownership)

Insane trade out, in my opinion, unless you have a minimum of 18 trades and are bringing him back next week. Allen is the best player in SuperCoach and should be stashed on your bench this week. Hell, I even considered not boosting and playing a man down this week because I like him that much.

Allen is the one guy you don’t want to not have in your squad, and it would be terrible if any of your replacements got injured and actually lost money, not allowing you to trade him back in. Don’t trade out your guns.

Lamar Jackson (QB Baltimore Ravens, $22.56m, 33 BE, 20% ownership)

You’ve held him for this long; why change that up now! Unless the decision is between Allen and Lamar, I would be holding him. There’s every chance he’s back this week, and if that’s the case, you play him in what will be a shootout with the Bengals.

I personally would’ve hopped off him a few weeks back, but if he’s this close to being back to playing and you believed that much in him, keep him. He still has a relatively low BE and will have weapons back to help him as well.

Tyler Warren (TE Indianapolis Colts, $12.1m, 11 BE, 15% ownership)

This one was a surprise out for me, like many coaches this weekend. An apparent aggravated groin injury from preseason is crippling our man, but he should be back either this week or next. In that case, I would hold him. If it’s going to be longer than a week and that is mentioned before kickoff, I’d possibly look to trade him to someone like Likely or Kittle, but outside of that, keep him.

As mentioned before, TE is so hard to pick, and you will have many ups and downs with the position, so you may as well keep a guy with a low BE who could become a straight swap to a Bowers or McBride if you don’t own them.

Sell

Fernando Mendoza (QB Las Vegas Raiders, $5m, 13 BE, 42% ownership)

Barring injury, it seems as though the Raiders are going to keep Kirk under centre and properly develop this young QB. In a week where the 61% owned best player is out and there’s a chance to move to someone who is starting at the QB position at only $6.5m or thereabouts, you make that move.

Mendoza is just wasting space now and may play some garbage time, which will stuff up many people’s loop options, so just get rid of him.

Jeremiyah Love (RB Arizona Cardinals, $9.43m, 30 BE, 49% owned)

There is a case to keep him; however, I think it’s time to get off the Love train if you didn’t already last week. I’d be doing anything possible to go from Love up to Chuba, as the jump isn’t too unrealistic. He’s also not guaranteed to play this week as he’s still injured.

There’s a case to hold him if you aren’t playing him, but at this stage you need players to start contributing during bye weeks. Many people will have Tuten in their ranks and may be stuck with Price like I am, so best get rid of him.

If you can’t afford to upgrade, you can downgrade, but the only real option is Pierce from Philly, who is just another short-term fix in my opinion.

Denzel Boston (WR Cleveland Browns, $10m, BE 21, 34% owned)

A case can be made to keep him as he’s scored around 20 each week; however, I think this may be the great man’s ceiling for this season. Boston is also on a fairly average team, being carried by its defence, so I can’t see his usual production lasting all year. Boston has made a good amount of money this year, and it would be a shame to lose some of the $5.5m he’s made.

The smart option to me is to move to another cheapie receiver mentioned above, or, if you have enough coin, one of the guns who has had a bye that you want for the remainder of the season.

Darius Cooper (WR Philadelphia Eagles, $8.76m, BE 13, 13% ownership)

A flash in the pan player who is now in a situation where he’s playing with an unproven QB. Cooper already was someone I wasn’t high on due to his TD-dependent numbers.

You shouldn’t have brought him in, and there are now legitimate options at WR in the cheapie department. Move on.

Trades and Captains

Pretty simple for me this week. I have decided to use a boost and bring my remaining trades to 11. I’m fairly happy with where my team is sitting for the next few weeks now and will look to make minimal trades depending on injuries.

TRADE IN BERNARD, HUBBARD AND MCKEE

TRADE OUT BOSTON, LOVE AND BECK

Embed from Getty Images

I really wanted to hold Beck as my potential Maye play during the Pats week 11 bye, but all reports are saying he probably won’t see time until late November, so I’m going to chuck a band-aid on the QB portion this week and play the Eagles’ new QB 1 against the woeful Dallas D.

Jalon Daniels had a day against these guys, and if McKee can score in the 20s, I’ll be stoked. Love needed to go, but I was blessed with him being out last week, so I waited a week to make the move. Hubbard is having a special season and could see the ball 300 times this season.

Bernard is also a must imo, as he’s actually got a good QB throwing the ball to him and has guaranteed playing time barring injury over the next few weeks. My hope is he keeps scoring at least 20 a week, and he moves into the double-digit millions.

Captain this week is Gibbs against Green Bay, where he could crack triple figures-how good! VC is on Maye, who plays in a juicy Primetime game on Thursday Night Football. I’ll loop if he scores 56 or more.

The Pats as underdogs is intriguing to me, and I expect a rushing TD or 2 from Maye. Best of luck this week; let’s hope those scores start rising!
