NRL Supercoach | Clem’s Captains, Round 10 Skippers

Former sixth-placed finisher Clementine Cassidy analyses the best captaincy candidates for NRL Supercoach Round 10

NRL

Latrell. Mitchell.

That is all.

So that concludes our Captaincy article for this we…

…and okay, it can’t be that easy.

Can it?

Because the tally just keeps going up and up, and after last Sunday’s 141-point effort against the Knights – Latrell now tops Supercoach in literally everything!

Highest Total Points: Latrell. Highest Average (by 10-points p/g): Latrell. Highest 3-Round Average: Latrell. Highest 5-Round Average…you guessed it – Latrell TON UP Mitchell – BY TWENTY-FOUR POINTS!

And last Monday, the Community Hall came alive with the largest celebration we have ever seen, as 96,381 owners all came together to give thanks to the Great Man – king of the ton and the first MILLION DOLLAR player for Supercoach 2026.

It was really quite beautiful and touching – we held the usual celebration circle of thanks where owners told their own inspiring Latrell stories; Mariah sang a special rendition of Hero to our Hero; and we finished off the morning with whiskey and a special manifestation ceremony using the blessed crystals to ask for another ton this week too.

Everyone was having a wonderful time… except one man who kept appearing at the window crying, and at first, I couldn’t quite make out who it was, but then it hit me!

It was the SC Spy! And of course I invited him in, because I am the SC Playbook Support Group Coordinator after all, and it is my very duty to do so because everyone should have the opportunity to own Latrell.

But then he said he couldn’t afford the 1-million-dollar entry fee!

Now as an empath, this was incredibly heartbreaking, so I invited him along to next Monday’s special meeting at the Community Hall for the non-owners instead.

And you are very welcome, Spy. Monday’s Lamentation Circle will be held in your honour, sir.

And honestly, how can you not put an armband of some kind on Latrell every single week until Round 12, where we can still technically Captain him because of the brand-new Origin Supercoach game, which is an extra little gift from Uncle SangstaClause that feels like Christmas in July come early.

Now, a lesson in ensuring you have a loopable loop – and it is my tale, because I DID have the VC on Latrell last week, but with Jenkins and Nicho being the only two players I could drop – I chose to ride the Captaincy on Nathan; and while that is incredibly risky and I do not recommend it when you have 141 points that could be doubled  – it thankfully worked out for me this time, only because I had the 8-point AE nightmare of an 8-minute Manuleleua waiting on my bench.

In hindsight, I should have gone with the Latrell Captaincy, but we live, and we learn, and the Friday Beers finished up on 1441 points for the week, which sees us fall a tiny bit to 1,867 place, which tbh – I am still stoked about with 2/3 of the season to come!

And I must give a shoutout to my nemesis, the Spy, because his team CAME TO PLAY, and he SMASHED me in our H2H, and congratulations to you, sir, may your team keep scoring points.

It’s so much more fun when our battle is competitive…

(We’re great friends outside our battle, haha, I promise).

So, onto this week, and even though I love a risk, I shall be planning my VCs with much more care, and so that brings me to the VC’s of the Week, and we will start with tonight’s game, where we have a very nice VC option by the name of:

Herbie Farnworth

Now, firstly, to anyone thinking of the straight Captaincy, can I please bring your attention to the fact that Captaining on a Thursday night is incredibly risky, and there are some extra excellent options in Round 10 who play after Herbie Farnworth – but as a VC, he is a stunning choice.

The Tackle Busting King of the Offload racks up points out of nowhere, and even if he doesn’t cross for a try, he’s going to score some points for you.

A 3-round average of 96 includes the elite second-half effort vs the Panthers in Round 7, where he finished on 134 points, and his lowest score of the season vs the Storm, where he still managed 74 points.

An average of 74 points in base and power for the season says it all – if you don’t own Herbie – GET HIM IN.

Playing the Bulldogs at Suncorp this week, the same Bulldogs who have only managed one win in six games – you’d have to like the Dolphins’ chances. And with outside backs enjoying scoring a try or two against them, you’d have to like Herbie’s chances.

VC with confidence – and get ready to loop friend.

Teddy

There’s juicy matchups, and then there’s matchups SO JUICY they resemble a 2am Corso kebab with all the sauces.

Because Teddy and the Roosters take on the Titans this Friday night, and if last week’s 28 – 12 loss vs the Raiders is anything to go by, the Titans are in for a long, loooong evening.*

Over half of coaches in the top 10% have the VC on Teddy, and rightly so – this could be a Titans TKO.

Because the Roosters are looking good, vintage Teddy is in some red-hot form, and at times last Saturday arvo, the Titans looked like they forgot they weren’t still playing the Bye.

A 3-round average of 118, 2 tries, 6 try-assists, 5 line-breaks, and 3 line-break assists in his last 3 games – If you own Teddy, you have to at least put the VC on the great man.

Loops are on! Captain Cheese the most popular choice of the week, I’m calling it now.

*(Also, a special moment of sympathy to us owners who have lost the great Mark for this most glorious matchup).

Kalyn Ponga

… and the matches just keep getting juicier…

…this time, we have a steak so rare, the mash potatoes need a lifejacket….

Because the Knights take on the Dragons on Saturday arvo… and Kalyn Ponga is back and he is looking glorious!

92 points in their win against the Bunnies in his first game back from a hammy injury.

A try-assist, line-break, try contribution… Not to mention 28 points in goals – because when Kalyn’s back, the tries are flowing.

I have never been so scared not to own a player in my life, and while I’ll try and reap some of the glory, bringing in big Greg – Kalyn vs the Dragons could be anything.

Because the Dragons are yet to win a game, Latrell Mitchell has scored more points than the ENTIRE team, and there are even rumours the Bye actually beat them.

If you own Kalyn for this match-up, it is your very duty to at least CONSIDER giving him some sort of armband.

Latrell Mitchell

That is all. (Pre-injury, dang…)

Nathan Cleary

Our final game of the Round, and it’s the Panthers taking on the Raiders at GIO.

And while Haas is out, we have a new Safe as Haases Captaincy choice, and with a 3-round average of 107 points, that is proving to be Nathan Cleary.

The second-most popular Captain amongst the top 10% of coaches this round, Cleary racked up points seemingly out of nowhere during the Panthers tight win against Manly last Sunday, to finish on 98 points.

Playing the Raiders this week, who have given up 90+ points to halfbacks four times this season – you’d like Cleary’s chances of putting on an absolute score!

FIVE tons so far this season – is this the week he gets number six?

(On behalf of Tommy Jenkins owners everywhere – CAN YOU PLEASE START GOING LEFT AGAIN!)

Verdict

At 2pm on a Thursday arvo – I am as much a glasshouse of indecision as I was on Tuesday’s poddy over my Captaincy choices.

My gut says Teddy VC into a Cleary Captaincy – but my heart says ‘you have to put something on Latrell!’ (thank god I don’t own Kalyn because I would be an indecisive wreck).

So while I contemplate this big decision, I’ll bid you adieu and a wish that your Captain scores you a ton and you get all the green arrows…

See you at the Caxton next week…

Clementine xx
