NRL Supercoach 2026 Round 14 Wrap: 8 Things We Learnt

A Jacob Kiraz power masterclass, Penrith's mammoth statement & Origin teams hit hard, Tim Williams recaps round 14 of NRL Supercoach

Our main man from the weekly wrap Nick Moon is unavailable this week.

Reports suggest he’s legally changed his name to FozBall and pitched a tent on the hill at Brookvale where he’s set up permanent residence to truly embrace the club’s revival.

Unfortunately the wi-fi on the hill at Brookie is no good, so I’ve stepped in for the weekly wrap in his absence.

Let’s take a look at the weekend that was in NRL Supercoach land, with significant impacts also coming out of the State of Origin squad announcements.

1. Save your Pennies for the Panthers

Penrith sent a timely reminder to Supercoaches of their absolute brilliance with a 68-0 demolition of the Tigers.

Poor bye coverage has seen many avoid, but that’s all about to change after this week.

Following the bye, they’ll face the Titans, Cowboys and Rabbitohs in the third major bye round.

The likes of Tom Jenkins (148) and Paul Alamoti (109) will be high on radars, especially the latter who likely spends time on the wing should Brian To’o (134) rest post Origin.

Nathan Cleary’s 148 points makes him extremely hard to sell, despite the prospect of him missing four of the next five NRL Supercoach weeks.

2. Kiraz watch…

Rumours floated around rugby league circles of Jacob Kiraz being out of the clash with Parramatta, with no confirmation until Monday.

Cameron Ciraldo revealed post-game he’s playing with a torn calf, freak…

Kiraz suited up on the wing and produced a base and power masterclass for nervous owners.

He finished with 93 points made up of 9 tacklebreaks, 7 offloads and 25 runs, with a lone linebreak as his only major attacking stat.

Despite a seemingly endless injury concern, he also looms as a must post-bye at a tick over $700k.

3. What’s up with Walsh?

If one eye was on Kiraz, the other was on Walsh.

People flocked to the Broncos fullback last week with games at Suncorp against the Dragons and Titans incoming.

By his immense standards, he struggled in both encounters with scores of just 73 and 68.

The salt in the wounds for the dip in form was his Origin selection, which will see him miss four of the next five rounds.

Owners will likely be forced to sell this week for around $550k.

4. Don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t say it…. Piakura time?

You know it’ll backfire, but Brendan Piakura looks a pretty good buy next week.

Brisbane cover the next two major bye rounds, and Piakura is very cheap off the back of a tonne against the Titans.

He’s set to be priced at around $370 with a breakeven of -24.

Every time he looks a good buy, investors tend to regret it shortly after, but he did look pretty lethal in attack.

5. Kini’s magical moment

Keano Kini produced one of the best match-winners you’ll ever see with his stunning individual effort in the dying stages of the clash with Brisbane.

The solo play provided the Titans with a much-needed win, and put a dent in the Broncos top eight aspirations.

It did highlight his Supercoach downfall this year though, scoring just 58 points in the win.

Removing his enormous 157 point score against the depleted Eels earlier in the year, Kini is averaging just 57.6 points for the season.
